still wondering about doing something very silly like rating things with range voting on particular issues, and then treating each issue as a "voter" that then ranks with a borda count†.
the reason is because this would be voting based on multiple different issues about particular things. like when grading a state to move to "are the gun laws retarded" would be an issue of 1-10 and "are the abortion laws retarded" is another issue of 1-10.
each issue ends up with a different sorting of preference and the borda count merges the independent issues by simulating them as separate "voters" making a preferential choice

not specifically about healthcare. its that charity work tends to happen when your cup is overflowing.
abusive taxation (such as in the name of social welfare programs) takes the money from people who's cups are actually not overflowing to begin with, and just oppresses their ability to help people *they* actually care about.
some of this could be helped with allowing the flat tax to be deducted like income tax, but they won't do that.

i suspect high taxes and performative socialism reduces the overall donations to charity. when the state is raping your wallet for 15% of everything you take—for "medicine" that only a minority of the population is allowed to have—people get this "it's already taken care of" feeling.

some of the books and essays i've been reading lately talk about the corporate siege mentality.
people are apparently happiest in some service positions where they can actually see the effect they had on other people. the more distant they are from seeing that what they do matters the sadder they are.
they are most productive in a tribe where they aren't strictly competing with one another and can delegate work around. it's kind of like being willing to admit you don't know something and asking vs. trying to hide that you don't know something so it can't be weaponized. (sineck calls it a 'circle of safety' but its basically just tribal dynamics.)

@npub1hlw…psnv shotcut hasn't crashed on me this past month (windows.) i have asked very little of it though. taking a VOD from twitch and just cutting some frames.
i've been told some of the crashing of NLEs has to do with using improper codecs. in production film you're supposed to crunch all your film to ProRes or DNxHD proxies. they are fucking huge files but they are designed in such a way that the program can easily read a random frame cheaply.
using mp4s puts strain on your box. if you are doing like 4 layers of video, then ask it to seek, its having to go back and resolve interframes all over the place.
for streaming you are already supposed to use keyframes every 1-3 frames anyway, which is what i send out of OBS.

shotcut is what i'm using in production on rumble.
kdenlive is supposed to be capable. but its dependence on MLT results in crashes. see @npub18cx…wnff if you want more in depth raging at kdenlive.
kden and shotcut will absolutely use GPU encoding—AMD, Nvidia, vaapi, whatever. Just tick the box.
blender is the forever forgotten editor. you'll have to set up the UI a bit (even the blender devs seem to forget this feature exists) but it definitely can and i've shipped product with it (did the a/v for someone else's college tv show for their graduation assignment.) i think @npub15km…sjvm still uses it. no MLT here, just blender internal.
cinelerra... well, that exists. its linux only. its geared to production and not consumers so you have to make sure your clips are pre-formatted with the right everything. but some people use it. i don't. i could not tell you if it is any good right now but it has changed hands about three times so ?someone? cares enough to keep it alive.
pitivi.. well, i think that one is @npub18wf…44x3 this one has no MLT, it uses GStreamer. updates very infrequently.
Flowblade i kind of liked. Built stupid. Will spinlock your processor because its rendering the preview at maximum framerate always.
Olive is.. something to keep your eye on if it ever does come out. It's not considered ready but you can download it and tinker. I'm somewhat curious on this one. It wants to merge the node filters of Natron (Nuke) with the NLE.

i've been continuously pushing the unpopular opinion that you should always treat people like they're working a normal eight hours job. even if they're disabled or whatever. treating someone like a chore bitch isn't really a good idea for anyone involved.
