Being environmentally responsible doesn't have to mean spending $60 on an EV. That is something most just simply can't afford. There is another completely valid way to approach environmentalism: reuse/rebuild/refurbish.
Instead of throwing away parts and buying new ones, fabricate a new replacement part from scrap metal. Pick a part from a junk yard/ebay. Refurbish a part with a simple gasket kit and elbow grease.

These aren’t just pulling in the feed data as is. It’s adding new content to the podcast description and other areas. These are also very old podcasts like “stuff you should know” so it’s hard to believe it’s just an inclusion when those feeds would’ve already been in there long ago.

To my knowledge the only things we have ever actually deleted (instead of just marking dead) is certain illegal content we got a DMCA for. I can count those instances on one hand. Nothing else is ever truly removed. Just flagged as dead. The feed references are still in there along with the titles and metadata. They just don't get aggregated or served in the API anymore.

It's not censorship. It's self-defense. I got a disk space warning on our database server (which is already expensive) late last week which is what set me in motion on this. I was prepared to let the AI sloppers and everyone else do whatever they want. It takes about 3 seconds to find phishing scams and all sorts of malicious content in the Index. But, they are actually costing us real money now by just pumping out feed content at an incredible rate.

I'm in the early days of building this out so do not expect consistency in the catalog as a whole. I'm focusing on the newly added stream of feeds instead of the whole Index in order to see patterns and get a handle on what is actually getting added, which is something I've never cared much about.

I can't get my own keys to work for docker hub. It used to because I pushed early helipad images to it, but i tried a couple of weeks ago and was denied. Haven't had time to dive in and try to fix it yet.

It seems to have been removed from both. I resurrected it in the Index, but Apple still shows it as dead in their directory.
My guess is that it returned a > 500 HTTP status code on polling for a time period and was auto-removed from both.

This is resolved now. A feed with a crazy unicode character in an enclosure url (🤦‍♂️ ) brought the whole aggregator node to a stop. There are about 9k feeds in the queue and should catch up shortly.

Add it to Apple’s directory. I think there is a submission process where you can add it to their directory without having to sign any EULA or anything. I’m not sure how that works though.

#api The /episodes/byfeedid endpoint now takes a new optional unary parameter called "newest". When you give this parameter it will only give you back the newest episode from the feed id(s) requested. An example would be:
/episodes/byfeedid?id=41504,920666,1333070&newest
...which would give back only the newest episode of NA,PC20 and PWR respectively.
Live items are still present in their own collection as normal.

We've had this happen multiple times with app devs getting rejected for accessing PI's api. We have a boilerplate letter we provide them that they can give to Apple to prove that it's ok.

#api One endpoint we've never had is a way to give the Index a list of podcast feed ID's and have it give back X number of the latest items from each feed. I've found myself in need of that. The SQL on it will probably be pretty challenging but I think it can work in a single query.

If you download the feed url with a script you will get the raw XML. The styled page you see is just what shows up when a browser loads it.

#laravel Interesting. Having to build all the CSS/JS into a bundle for serving with Vite means that if I try to dynamically add a class with something like:
$(element).addClass('size-8')
...if I haven't used that class before in the static HTML of the blades it just will not work. I just had to make a dummy, non-visible <div class="size-8"> to get the dynamic assignment to work.

I'm sorry, I wasn't being clear. I know what cascade actions are. I was having trouble figuring out how to apply an update cascade to the table schema in Eloquent. I ended up finding it later and it's much easier than I thought:

A lot of the confusion comes to where to put things. How much logic belongs in the View vs. the Controller. I can see coding yourself into a box if you choose wrong and then having to refactor later.

It’s just a single GET to podping.cloud with the feed url as a parameter. You do that whenever the feed itself changes or the enclosure content changes.
I can send you an auth token. It’s a very simple thing.
