If it's Florida, there most likely isn't a basement. No frost heaving = no need for deep foundations = cheaper to build on a slab.
And if it's relatively recent construction, it almost certainly already has hurricane tie straps on the rafters inside. I think that's been in the building codes in hurricane-prone areas for a while now.

For future reference, if you want to make a dog vomit, get them to swallow some ordinary hydrogen peroxide. It doesn't take much, a tablespoon or so is plenty. Keep a small plastic syringe on hand for this purpose. Squirt it down the hatch, wait 10 seconds, and Fido's barfing.
I had a dog swallow a metal bottle cap once, and this was the advice the vet gave me. That bottle cap came back up almost instantly.

Most people are looking for connection to other people, but very few want to initiate. We're trained from a young age to abhor rejection. But if someone rebuffs a simple attempt at conversation, who gives a fuck? Don't take it personal and move on. Saying hi to a neighbor shouldn't be fraught with anxiety, but for many people it sadly is.
The nice thing about making local connections is it only takes a couple good ones to plug you into the web of relationships that already exists.

I think you said it right there - go meet your dang neighbors. Depending on where you live, this can be as simple as going outside. We have a farm and a city house. In town, we took out the lawn and put gardens in the front yard. Our street is very busy with people walking, jogging, etc. We met more of our neighbors in the first few months of tending those gardens than we had in years before that. Meeting the farm neighbors required going to community events like the July 4th parade.

I used to work at Lackland a few years ago. The neighborhoods around the base are sketchy as fuck. There were two incidents of shootings right outside the gates that put the base into lockdown while I was there, just regular gangbangers doing their thing. I'll bet this was the same thing, but it was close enough to the gate that a guard decided to open fire this time.
If anybody wanted to get onto that base, there are much easier ways than through the gates.

Making a product that's just "good enough" will almost always save you enough work to give you a volume advantage over those who insist on building their product the right way. It's not such a problem in normal goods, because there's often a market for a premium alternative to cheap junk. But in tech, the size of the user base is often a key factor in the value of the product. That almost always allows the least principled with the most mediocre product to rise to the top.

Yes, the technical aspects would be similar. But the culture of Mastodon is one of blocklists and mean-girl bullshit, which makes it possible for a developer to do this with little pushback. The culture of a "freedom" protocol like Nostr makes such an action likely to doom any frontend developer that decided they were going to decide what the users could see.
But most people fear freedom, so you have to choose between a wider audience or a smaller, but better one.

There aren't many people like @npub1gx2…4lmh out there, willing to put in the work without claiming the prize of being Head Censor of their little sandbox. So the concept of federation was always doomed to fail; most people can't resist the allure of imposing their opinions on others.
If you want censorship-free social media, it's going to have to come via something more like Nostr. But that will never be popular, because it puts the burden of managing your feed on the individual user.

If it's really alpha-gal, she won't just be allergic to beef. All non-primate mammal meat contains the offending molecule. So if it's just a minor allergic reaction to beef, and not pork, rabbit, etc, then she may just be reacting to some of the shit they put in factory farmed beef. She may still be able to eat quality grass-feed beef. If it is alpha-gal, she should still be able to eat poultry (and monkeys).

Yes, cherries and plums are both in the 'prunus' genus, so some varieties can be grafted onto each other. It's possible to have a "fruit salad" tree that grows peaches, plums, cherries, and apricots all on one tree.
Generally, though, this is more of a novelty than anything useful. You won't get as much fruit from such a combination, and each variety might have different seasonal timing, so maintenance can be complicated.

Everyone else notices it, too. We're just such a dependent society reliant on industrialized systems for all our needs that most people can't do shit about it. So they soldier on as best they can, continuing to repeat the same mistakes that have gotten them to this point, because making other choices and living a different way requires a lot more work and a willingness to tell "society" to get fucked.
