Even though I am using Unix-like operating systems for decades but one thing I am still struggling with is job control.
I.e. I start a long running process with output like rsync -av in my terminal. I know about ctrl-z and bg. But output is not detached. What I want is sending also the output to the background and getting it to the foreground from time to time to check on the status.
I rarely have long running tasks without output, so I always wonder what to do with job control. #linux #bsd

Don’t use “Outlook (new)” in #Windows 11. I just did a tcpdump and looked also at my #mail servers when setting up an account in there. The mail client only spoke with Microsoft-servers, never with my mail-servers and I saw on my mail-servers only connections from Microsoft-IPs.

I really try to like #kmail, but this mail application has always some problems. Right now I want to get my inbox empty. I delete a bunch of mails and a few seconds later, they are back in the inbox and then they can´t be removed at all. #kde #linux

I saw today Dune Part 1 & 2 in the cinema. 1 was quite cool, 2 was ok. A bit confusing from time to timee and the time frame was too short.
The book where the story needs years to develop (according to the plot in the Wikipedia) makes more sense to be honest.

Favorite RPG of all time: Shadowrun!
I don’t care about the edition. The world is awesome and I love the dice pools (big trolls == big dice pools) and you have a reason why strangers run together. Sometimes I don’t like the crunchiness.

@npub19wf…ufh6 Hm…next idea would be for me to follow the snap-theory. That would mean check if a slow starting app is installed as snap and if yes, see if you can install it as a “normal” application via apt-get. Uninstall the snap, install the normal application and see if it is faster. Tbh here I don’t know a lot of Ubuntu because I run usually other distributions.

Favorite tie-in fiction. You might not believe it when you read my last posts but I am a hardcore Shadowrun-fan and I love the novels. especially the older ones were cool like 2XS by Nigel Findley or Burning Bright by Tom Dowd.

Smartest RPG you ever played. I dont know the name but it was a small indenpendently never published game that dosnt use dice but some mechanism for shifting your values in attack and defense and did some cool stuff without any dice for skill checks (which I cant remember unfortunately)

Regarding my last post about #Suse and anti-semitism. Lunduke seems to beproblematic and has a personal grudge against the company. But I find nothing really from the company that counters his blog-post

The question is: why don’t the other people speak up or why do the volunteers if they know about this behavior don’t orient to for example other distributions

Wow. Pocket has really no support except some FAQ-articles. And the “Contact Support” link is just a link onto the support-page. I didn’t expect that from a company like Mozilla.
They also list accounts on X and not on Mastodon or so.

For some reason my Doom emacs behaves differently in #OpenSuse than with other #Linux-distributions or macOS. I have no idea why or how to debug.
All in all #OpenSuse behaves with some things quite differently than I know it from other distributions and my laptop 🤔
