I'm trying to figure out a way to re-wild our back yard at least in part, without letting the ticks and other really obnoxious bugs run rampant. We spent some time wandering around the vegetable garden and yard yesterday morning, coming up with ideas for what we want it to become over the coming years. Don't have a lot of money, but I have a lot more time these days being a housedad, and it's a good trade for me.

Not sure from which part(s) but it is definitely no longer functional. It is PROBABLY repairable.
Pro tip: always put on your reading glasses and verify output voltages before plugging in the power.

Many people I know still in uniform are deeply concerned about staying on the right side of international laws of warfare. Believe it or not, we spend a lot of effort to minimize unnecessary killing. That was a large part of my job in 2016-7 in the counter-ISIS fight.
This administration's approach is a a recurring slap in the face to the professional military.

#ReaperDAW actually plays pretty nice with #git, though the binary audio files are obviously kinda big and unwieldy. If I were collaborating with others, I'd do well to separately store those and just git the project files.
Just having all of my #Inkscape art in a project is quick and easy and pretty painless. I've been scouring my laptop and network, finding other places where I had copies of things squirrelled away, and freeing up space. Liberating and fun.

I have started moving more and more of my creative work from just simple shares on the network drive to #git projects on my local #Forgejo container in #TrueNAS
Most of the time, I am working from home on my network and it doesn't really matter that much. But I do take my laptop on the go sometimes, and it's nice to sync it up and KNOW that I have it all locally. Also, my Mac is awfully inconsistent accessing network shares; this may be a better workflow.

Heuristics, to my understanding, are low-cost shell script replacements for thinking.
"Turn it off and on again" is often a great heuristic for troubleshooting. It costs little, treats many symptoms, and can narrow down the cause.
Thinking is great. I'm a big fan. But it takes effort and energy and I try to reserve those for things worth thinking about. So don't waste it on people who match your heuristics for "not to be taken seriously." Life is too short and there is music to make.

I spent most of 2019 researching and writing curriculum, in particular a 1-day introduction to critical thinking and structured analytic techniques.
I taught it several times, made some revisions, and handed it off to the teaching team
who declared it "too advanced" because they couldn't be bothered to do the preparatory reading and learn the lesson plan
so it got shelved and they taught a really dumbed down version instead
meanwhile I kept teaching it any time we had a training day to kill

Weight is not a useless metric but it definitely needs context. I'm fighting the residual anxiety I get from 20+ years of having a screening weight over which I should not be, per the Army.
I'm about 10 pounds over that right now. But I'm also out of the army and no longer subject to such things. But it's hard to let go.

I've often wondered if it derives from people having to make five different types of art just to break even. It's not enough to just be a musician; they also have to have how-to books, YouTube channels, video courses, and a newsletter. So it's easier to say "content" as a catch all. Which is a pretty damning indictment of how we value and compensate artists.

Really mastering the Pro Tools shortcuts on Mac (which are quite different from on Windows) is one of the main reasons I needed to have it at home. The biggest challenge I have is going between Cmd+X/C/V and Ctrl+X/C/V. It doesn't help when I'm using the same physical keyboard to go between them.
