Did Muslims Stone Gays & Charge Non-Muslims Taxes?
When some people (usually jews) talk about islamic jurisprudence (fiqh/ sharīʿah), they sometimes bring up two controversial ideas. Stoning for gays and the jizya tax. But what do these really mean in historical context?
In classical islamic books, liwāt means a specific sexual act between two men , not simply “being gay.” Islam does not punish you for having same sex attraction. What it condems is acting upon such feelings. The Qur’an tells the story of the people of Prophet Lot, but it doesn’t name a specific punishment. So early Muslim jurists used hadiths and analogy to decide what should happen if someone did this act.
Different schools of islamic law had different opinions:
Some said it should be punished like fornication by hetrosexuals (sex outside marriage). That could mean stoning if the person was married before, or public flogging if not.
Others said the punishment was up to the judge or ruler.
Some said it should only get a discretionary punishment (a taʿzīr), which could be lighter (prison sentence)
But there’s a big catch:
To actually punish someone (wether homosexual or hetrosexual), you needed four moral reliable eyewitnesses who saw the act of penetration clearly or a confession from those accused. And Islamic law forbids the government from spying. That means private acts in someone’s home didn’t meet the standard for punishment. In practice, it was almost impossible to prove.
So, while classical fiqh books mention harsh penalties, they almost never happened in practice unless someone made it public or confessed. Fucking in public is unfortunately something gays are notorious for doing in todays modern world. To be honest , it's not just the gays, an increasing number of hetrosexual couples are also copulating in the streets like animals due to sexual kinks. It's a disgusting worrying trend in the west for anyone who values civilization and family. Often made worse by the use of alcohol (another thing banned by Islam) that clouds judgement and rational thinking.
In short don't fornicate in public like monkeys if you don’t want to be punished under Islamic law.
As for the jizya, it was a tax that classical Islamic governments charged non muslim adult men who lived under muslim protection (called ahl al-dhimmah / the protected people).
It served the following purposes:
It was a sign that they accepted the Islamic government’s authority.
It helped pay for protection and public order.
It also acted as a kind of military exemption tax, because muslims were the ones expected to serve in the army, while non muslims were not.
If non muslim men didn’t want to pay the jizya tax then they could simply join the army.
Women, children, the elderly, monks, and the very poor were all exempt.
The amount was small and flat (usually about 12–48 silver dirhams per year) depending on income. A few days’ wages at the time.
Todays modern governments collect way more types of taxes from everyone. Income tax, sales tax (VAT), property tax, gift tax , capital gains tax , stamp duty , pension tax etc... loads of different taxes are imposed in todays modern world in order to service the interest on the national debt.
And the most pernicious of them all, inflation.
Inflation is a hidden tax.
It's loss of the purchasing power of the fiat currencies you are forced to hold by modern nation states by legal tender laws whenever banks increase the money supply via interest (another evil banned by Islam) credit expansion. This is the fundamental reason why most people can't afford houses and the primary way governments have money for long wars. Stealing the purchasing power of ordinary citizens via inflation.
All these taxes , particularly income tax (income tax is forbidden in islamic jurisprudence) and inflation are corner stones of the liberal world order of nation tates and banks. The nations that most respresent this liberal world order are the USA and Israel.
In other words today muslims and non muslims all over the world pay jizya to the liberal usurious world order in a variety of ways.
The liberal world order that you support, usually steals 10–30% or more of a person’s money every year.
By comparison, jizya was tiny.
More like a small annual fee rather than a full tax system.
In conclusion liwāt punishments done in public were part of classical islamic law but in practice required impossible levels of proof and were rarely applied.
Jizya was a tax for non muslims, tied to protection and not having to fight in the army.
Modern taxes are much higher and burdensome.
Most modern muslim majority countries don’t apply jizya or ḥudūd punishments today, since they have secular constitutions and central banks. In other words they have to work within / bend the knee to the larger liberal world order.
