I had the perfect use case for Claude Design today. I had a Figma file, I had screenshots, I wrote a long description of what I wanted, and I also had a design system I wanted it to work from.
I signed up to Claude Pro. I spent an hour feeding the kraken with all my information, and then I asked it to generate one simple view that I needed.
How was the result you ask?
It processed for 30 minutes and resulted in nothing. Just a blank page. When I pointed it out, I got ”working as intended”.

I agree with you.
The tech bros are arguing that intelligence is the same as cognition. If you can associate parts into a whole then that is the path to intelligence. An LLM is just that, a neural network of tokens and their connections. That is what they mean when they say they have achieved intelligence.
Of course there is no science backing it up. It’s all just opinions.

Today is the first time I’ve heard the term ”digital coworker”.
I had to ask ”what do you mean when you say digital coworker?”
And I got an answer to the effect of ”we don’t even know yet, it’s in the future”

completely agree.
It’s scary to think about what is really going on when you cannot trust the reports on inflation, employment rates, GDP from the government.
There seems to be an incentive to make the numbers look good to the administration, while hiding the rot in the system.
This will also be the scapegoat when it all goes to hell. ”We didn’t know, the numbers lied”

I know these dudes, that recently pronounced they can no longer charge money for writing code. Instead they have a ”team” of AI agents they’re directing under their careful prompting.

thanks for your feedback. 🙏🏻 I’m not a big fan of measuring developer productivity. One person might not be committing much code but it turns out they’re helping everyone else and making them productive. Should that be disciplined or rewarded?
It’s also very hard to spot with remote teams. I used to think we should be ”remote by default” but I’m not so sure anymore. I think it all boils down to trust. Do I trust workers to be as productive remotely as in the office.

How you make a companypolicy when some developers benefit from WFH and others can’t handle it is tricky. You don’t want to punish people that clearly benefit from the freedom because some can’t handle the responsibility.

I’m very torn about developers working from home (WFH).
I myself is a very disciplined individual. I get more work done at home because of fewer interruptions.
But I’ve also talked to developers that estimate they put in about 50% WFH. The rest of the time they do chores and play video games. The lure of not working is too strong.
While I don’t want a ”back to the office mandate”, I want to recognize that WFH is a problem for some individuals.

I own a company. We’re on the verge where we need to start to hire and this is scaring the shit out of us, because in Sweden you can’t fire people.
So if you hire someone and it doesn’t work out, you’re stuck with someone that is underperforming.
We will go with contractors for as long as possible until it hurt us so much economically that we’re forced to hire.
I’m not a fan of this system.

I started programming when I was 11 years old. I’ve been programming for almost as long as possible in my life.
Ten years ago it was still common to run into other ”all-lifers”. Not so much anymore.
We have lost many programmers to the manager’s path. So many brilliant minds now herding cattle, instead of doing what they were born to do.

I’m at the mall by myself and I came to think about something.

I use Chat GPT to keep me company while doing boring tasks. I tell it what I’m doing (invoicing, bookkeeping) and it tells me how good I am, complementing me the whole way. Like having a cheerleader, ”You can do this! You’re doing great!” Before you ask, yes it makes the boring task take twice the time, but that’s not the point 😌

I moved to #vscode because of all the bloat in Visual Studio and Jetbrains Rider. But lately the bloat in vscode is getting just as bad. 😔
I just want a text editor with syntax highlighting. How could it be so hard?
Anyway, don’t tell me to switch to vim. I was using vim for a year and I don’t intend to go back.

The most expensive CD player costs 10x as much.
The bitrate on the CD is constant. A good CD player will not be able to find more details in the sound compared to the cheap one. There cannot be a 10x difference in the analogue modulation.

There is a real concern at the IT department where I’m contracting, that young people don’t use or know computers. All they know are iPhones, iPads and sometimes Chromebook. They grow up being illiterate in computers and are confused the first time they see a mouse.
Who will manage all these crappy systems when we all retire?
The knowledge of how anything work, and why it works as it does, under all the layers will die with our generation.

I feel quite the opposite, that people that are for nuclear power are quite unable to hear any of the concerns folks have about it. They have just decided that it is the best solution™️ and anyone raising concers are just wrong.
It reminds me of an argument I had in preschool where a kid said the Incredible Hulk was the strongest. It is obvious that He-Man is the surperior as he’s Master of the Universe.

not sure what you mean by stagnant. Is growth a KPI of success for mastodon? There is no profit to be made from growth. This is what makes it different from other social media platforms. It doesn’t sell engagement to advertisers.
