I'm in the same boat. I sent out 300+ resumes in 3-4 months, each one for a job I met at least 80% of the qualifications for, maybe a dozen for which I was a perfect match. Nada. One adversarial interview with some ass who had decided he didn't like me before he grudgingly opened his Zoom to dismiss me. A couple of recruiters who produced nothing. And I'm seeing way too many people go through the same hell as us. The tech job market is fucked.

It is, or was. I'm 20 years older than a lot of people here, but I suffer from the same problems. I wasn't selected to start a family. I've struggled to keep my head above water financially until the last year or two (unemployed now, so back into the job hunting nightmare). I've had very little luck establishing friends and contacts after moving to a new city. I feel burned out and isolated because of our very broken society.
I haven't been able to establish the fundamental things it would take to fill those holes, and I'm now of an age where big parts of that either definitely won't happen, or are unlikely to happen. I'm genuinely worried about being an elderly man alone in the world.

You're on to something. Part of the reason I had to move out of my home town was because everything was a memory. Every drive was like touring a museum of my life and it was emotionally exhausting. I used to want a lot of it back but I realized I outgrew it.

I've had many bosses who were assholes. One somehow got ahold of a pad of Arby's applications (back when businesses used to take paper apps). He kept it on the corner of his desk. If you came into his office with a complaint he didn't like, he'd rip an application off the pad and hand it to you. He thought he was funny.
He somehow got promoted to boss a larger group of people. Not quite 3 months later, 9 of 17 people who worked under him had left, including me, number 9. No idea what happened after that.

In 30 years in tech, I've had one single employer send me to one single training course because I named it as a condition of my employment and subsequently badgered them for a year until they relented.
I've never had any employer offer any type of training, education, certification, professional development, or anything of the sort. I've had most employers pigeonhole me into a specific job for years at a stretch and never offer advancement (and rarely even a cost-of-living raise) or an opportunity to gain experience through promotion or even a lateral move.
All of my certifications and training have come at my time and expense. All of my increased earnings have come from grinding through the interview and hiring process yet another time. I know I don't come off well on social media, but please believe me, in person I'm an intelligent, responsible, qualified adult man with three decades' experience and literally 10 pages of accomplishments to my resume, and it gets sent to the same HR black hole as anyone else.
As I get older, over 50, I dread what may become of my career in tech. Things are going well for me now, but can easily turn bad. To read anyone telling me that Americans lack motivation and talent is infuriating as I, and others, desperately attempt to get the attention of companies hiring for jobs we're very clearly qualified for and are purposely ignored, told we don't exist, and need to be replaced with street shitters.
I know what the billionaires' goals are, I understand the situation. I also know that the longer it continues, the less any man is invested in the American economic zone. What I don't know is how this ends.
