It is difficult to judge with this clown car regime, common sense being in very short supply. My view is that it is sabre-rattling and brinkmanship bluster trying to get some face-saving concession from Iran for TACO. MAGA have everything to lose and nothing to gain. China have transferred significant assets to the region increasing the risk. If you lose some B1s and give them photo ops of goatfuckers beating wreckage with shoes you've lost!

We had an apartment in Barcelona and a place in Pamplona. I have to say Spain is becoming very difficult. In Pamplona there were local planning bullshit, I mean you really don't want the hassle, it was nothing short of blackmail/mayoral corruption. I am sorry you are having a difficult time. I don't know what it would feel like not to have something permanent. I have people who from time to time let me know about various boltholes and I was quite astonished to learn that I could buy rural cottages in Bulgaria for ~€50k, and quite nice beach studios for not that much more. It's still in the EU, has very favorable PITR 10% (check for Dutch double indemnity) if you overstay your 180 days so you could own for less than the cost of a VW.

Perhaps only devs understand this; your depressed coder story is dubious. See LLMs do not write good code. They often come up with the most dumbass implementations. They are really good at generating a tons of perfectly fine boilerplate and a lot of time that is what you want but usually you have to code, or reprompt them forever until they somehow come up with the right answer and the number of times that they will never is non-zero. Even a vibe coder would know that coding... /1

I see #Firefox no longer offers PWA on 'Desktop' versions. What will Mozilla be when nobody uses their web browser anymore? Aren't they just being kept on life support by Google to avoid anti-trust problems. Do web developers spend time testing for Firefox? Sad really. On derisory numbers now.

The problem for US military personnel is that what is illegal is not always black and white. You can refuse orders which present immediately as illegal - e.g. 'shoot that kid'. However the process is to consult your JAG officer. Your JAG could be Ron de Santis and he's telling you that it is ok to put that hose down that guys neck. If your orders are to patrol Portland and the JAG says well SCOTUS says it's ok? Furthermore, German laws in 40s were changed to make it not illegal.

The conversations become so long that it just loses its thread completely. You can say quite specifically 'do not do X' and it will just go ahead and do X anyway. Maybe earworms are the brain's way of writing back low priority memories that have been retrieved from long term storage into conscious short term cache temporarily while it commited some new memories. If this new theory is correct then getting some sleep might reset or speed up the process. Overflowing the conscious short term cache might also make you forget parts of the low priority memory or even corrupt the other new memory. Did you want to remember how that matching algorithm works?

In cybersecurity we say 'depends' and 'never say never' a lot. Nothing is 100% memory safe if you want to deal in absolutes. Zig provides optional bounds checking, better handling of undefined behavior, and safer memory management patterns. However, it still allows manual memory management just like Rust does with `unsafe`. Furthermore memory safety is not the only bug. Rust's hidden behaviors, fugliness and complexity likely leads to equally bad bugs elsewhere.

Devils advocate: zig is much more fun to write in than Rust (is there a fuglier lang than Rust idk), there are guardrails, comptime is its own superpower - bun is gaining traction depends heavily on metaprogramming, memory? sure no lifetimes but you have control if you need it. zig always defers to more explicit - maybe the 'no surprises' policy is good?
