UT leadership have abolished the black studies department here
it hurt so much to hear the professor say today that this was his final lecture as a professor for the aads department
i'm feeling so many emotions: disappointment, disillusionment, weariness, rage, despair
and i know that they have done this because they are cowards and that they can never extinguish our power

I think the unemployment numbers for US Black women are even higher now, maybe close to 600k
We make up 25% of the poor, disproportionately high numbers compared to other race-gender demographics. Also important to take into account things like immigration status, disability, transness...all of these identities attract economic penalties and we're fucked if ya can't acknowledge that

Dear White #anthropologists: y'all gotta start citing more Black people and especially Black women in your work. We (black women anthropologists) are disproportionately undercited (Smith 2021). Also, a lot of y'all are kinda bad about half-reading us (I have had several white male anthropologists *egregiously* misquote bell hooks and Audre Lorde to me, hoping for a pat on the back, I suppose). some of the most long-suffering black women i've met--I'm talking school desegregators, former prisoners, ppl who have endured hardship after hardship, often preach a doctrine of love for humanity.
So tft ppl among the most privileged, insulated among us are inclined towards a doctrine of hatred? I think this does say something about human society, and I think it is echoed in many religious doctrines--not the fascist kind, but the kind that prescribe asceticism...greed causes suffering.

just some more thoughts on this. I have encountered many men, especially white ones, who have claimed some variation of "humanity sucks irreparably." Which is so very interesting, because our society writ large is constantly centering white men and capitulating to their needs, wants, and fragility.

This right here is what I'm talking about. Pearson recognizes what many dems refuse to: what we have is not sustainable, and has been untenable for a significant portion of the population for a long time.
Establishment dems such as Cohen, the incumbent, have had the privilege to hold their positions while shortchanging their constituencies amid clamors of "vote blue no matter who," regardless of the crumbs offered, underserving black and brown people as a matter or course.

Perhaps one of the most insulting racist moments I had during my time in KKKnoxville, TN is when I was told that I need to wait for change. (This was in light of literal klan activity in the town!)

It disgusts me to see the relative silence of the "political violence is bad! 😡" crowd now compared to when a rapist got scraped on the ear. The hypocrisy is blatant and nauseating. This express lack of regard or concern for Palestinian lives is political violence in and of itself.
