Tinkering around with my Xenocara and Wayland configs on #OpenBSD as I realised that my xterm and foot terminals gruvbox colors were not the same. So my inner OCD kicked in and resolved the mismatches so they both look alike now. I am currently running under Wayland but do keep flicking back every once in a while as I miss nice things like redshift and currently there is nothing for Wayland in the OpenBSD ports. Also I my wee retro brain keeps wanting me back in xterm although foot is nice too. So does this mean that I'm proper old school ? 🤓 :runbsd:

OK #OpenBSD friends, Why when I install Sway or Mango ( #Wayland ) can I not get any keyboard control ? I can run them fine on #FreeBSD but on OpenBSD they both start but the keyboard does nothing on the mouse seems to work on waybar. I'm using known working configs for both.
I do see errors like permission denied for /dev/wskb* . I'm at a loss as I'm sure I had sway running last year ??
Even copied the startsway.sh and modified for mango but still no keyboard ???
Please boost for a larger reach. ❤️

Cool so it sounds that setting up an alias or two with -Dsnap is the way to go. That way I don't have to worry about when to use it as it will be all the time on -current .

I've still not given up on #Vi as my editor instead of #Vim and to be perfectly honest, I'm not really missing the fancy Gruvbox theme and Vim's auto-completion. It's making me learn new tricks and stops me relying on the help of plugins. Good for the old grey stuff I'd say! I even changed the 88x31 button on my websites footer from Vim to Vi. #RunBSD #OpenBSD

Haha just resolved a couple of niggling bugs in my blogs html using n(vi) on #OpenBSD . I know it's not much but I used to use vim before and I'm easily pleased. I wonder if you get a logo like this one that says vi instead of vim ???

I think in my #vi journey on #OpenBSD that I'm leaning towards #nvi as in nvi2. Only because I do use some nerd font stuff to pretty up some of my menus and my bar. But obviously that could change as I may get rid of those nerd fonts and just stick with plain text?
If you're an OpenBSD user and use vi instead of vim do you use the builtin n(vi) or nvi2 ?

So here's the difference between nvi2 on the left and n(vi) #OpenBSD own vi editor. As you can see the Unicode fonts show up in nvi2 but not in n(vi).

Thanks Antonio. I have Unicode symbols in some of my scripts but I'm wondering if I actually need them as they are just for display ? If I decide that I do them I will be switching to nvi2 but for now I'm going to try my hand at OpenBSD's default n(vi).

Whoah ! My #OpenBSD #vi config is a hearty 10 lines long compared with the 260 of my minimal #vim config. Yeah I know I don't have theme support and what not but I'm prepared to give this a shot without all the fancy bells and whistles. The only thing it doesn't do is display my icon fonts in scripts but it's made me wonder if I even need them now. Yes nvi2 will display them but it feels like cheating to install that when n(vi) is in the base on OpenBSD.

I think I'm being a tad stupid here ? How do I select text in vi or nvi not vim if it has no visual mode using just the keyboard ? Everything I search just gives me vim results.

Hmmm decisions decisions. As an #OpenBSD user I usually prefer #vim with just 2 plugins installed my gruvbox theme and colorizer to color html color codes. But I'm wondering if I really need syntax highlighting and theme support ? You can see my rough and I mean rough .kshrc side by side in vim and vi. I do like a splash of color and do enjoy the command completion though so I guess I will tinker further with n(vi) further.

Also something else that I have noticed as an #OpenBSD user is that vi and nvi undo functions seem to both work the same ? I mean you can press u in both to undo and then press . to do multiple undos. Yet I thought it was only nvi that had that feature? I'll have to read up more on both to find differences.

If repeated the u command alternates between these two states. The . command when used immediately after u causes the change log to be rolled forward or backward depending on the action of the u command. 
If you're an nvi user what other tips or hacks are there that I should know about ? I don't suppose there is some magical way to theme it ?

On new fishing boats like the one I posted last week are full of cat6 cable. We can put on say in the region of 200-300+ plugs. The video matrix uses them for screens all over the vessel and internet systems plus CCTV and other stuff too. Gives you sore fingers when you've made that many. Well done.

Thinking about the way I use my computers at home. At the moment I have my ThinkPad with it's screen as the right of a main 32" HDMI TV but haven't really been using the laptops display even though it's setup for dual screen.
So I'm thinking about replacing the TV with a 24" wide-screen monitor. They are both 1920x1080 but I think the dedicated monitors picture looks sharper than the TV.
I may just switch off the laptops display when it's on the external monitor ? Hmmmm.

Got quite a few snagging jobs done aboard the Vigilant and Ocean Way in Peterhead this morning. Ranging from replacing one of the very heavy Neovo QX55 inch screens as the port one had a black line across the screen like missing pixels. Fitted a UPS to the vessels office PC, Programmed private channels into their Sailor VHFs, Installed the correct drivers for one on their two fushroim scales pribters and various other stuff. Even found time with the skippers permission for a few photographs for you lot. I didn't take all around but you'll get the gist.

Just learned that the road into Peterhead near the power station is going to be subject to delays for the next 87 weeks ! Why you might ask ? @npub1lu0…q9t4 Any idea why on #F-Droid app recently I get a "Mikrotik apps: Signing key does not match error" ? I'm using your repo to get the Mikrotik app which installed successfully about a month ago no F-Droid just gives this error when checking for updates on your repo.

I love it's simplicity and at the same time it's security with the added bonus that the excellent devs do not try to follow the crowd. I've been a BSD user for a while using FreeBSD but OpenBSD just seems to appeal to me more. I was a long time Linux user but I'm not keen on the way that's heading now although I'd take it any day over microslops OS.

Had a vessel where their VSAT system kept failing at sea and presented with all sorts of AZ, EL dome errors so last week I booked a crane and swapped out the dome. Worked a treat no more errors until they went to sea again. So today I went back aboard and buzzed out the cable from the antenna control unit which was perfectly ok and decided to swap out the antenna control unit. To be 100% sure I volunteered to go out to see even though it was extremely rough out and the sea was breaking over the Peterhead breakwaters. To my delight after the vessel being thrown about for an hour the VSAT never skipped a beat and the crew were happy with their internet. Posting a picture although it doesn't look too rough in picture but I can assure you it was. I was holding on whilst watching the stats of the VSAT on my laptop.
