Is there any reason JavaScript for a specific site wouldn’t load on multiple browser on iOS? It’s a local problem, I can’t figure it out. I’ve tried:
- restarting both Firefox and safari
- power cycling
- clearing cache and data
- verifying js is enabled
- messing with Firefox privacy/security settings
It’s weird that it’s both browsers. Other people on the WiFi don’t have this issue.

This is called mission creep: installing surveillance for one reason and using it for another. Most high tech police surveillance and a lot of smart city tech experiences mission creep specifically around increased surveillance and other police uses.
When cities approve these technologies, they aren’t aware of all the possible future uses, they’re often making a decision to install them based on a specific use.

Predictive policing is a perfect example of this.
Predictive policing is enticing for police and politicians because it *seems* like a fair solution to the problems of biased discretionary policing and violent crime.
However if you take a look inside, it amplifies the problems of unequal policing while doing nothing to tackle the root causes of crime. An open source, publicly owned, or “algorithmically fair” redesign would just perpetuate the idea that tech solutions solve social problems.

Two things:
1. We are creating a two-tiered internet that will see people willing to give up their IDs having one experience while those who can’t, won’t, or don’t have them missing out on those experiences or being outright excluded from whole areas of the web
2. Why you would be willing to give up your ID to web services that have such poor security in a time when identity is being weaponized by state actors is beyond me
