Western academic feminism was one of the last institutions to be captured by gender identity ideology.
This isn't an opinion, it's documented.
First, there was the American Psychiatric Association, which got on board with transgenderism in the 1960's, after partnering with transvestite Arnold Lowman, aka Virginia Prince, who said he was aroused by imagining himself as a girl.
The word "gender" wasn't in common academic usage until the APA published the DSM-3 in 1980, and included "gender identity disorder" alongside sexual pathologies found in men.
In the twenty years in between, sexologists were creating "gender clinics" at US universities.
So for two decades before the APA published the DSM-3, gender clinics were already operating at universities, especially in California and Minnesota.
Those same universities were also counseling wives of transvestites to accept their husbands' sexual abuse.
As well, major institutions like the WHO and the UN were promoting transsexualism, and universities began replacing "Women's Studies" with "Gender Studies."
Judith Butler appeared on this issue in the 90's, even as women had been rejecting it - and were being punished and "re-educated" by transvestite lobby groups for doing so.
The medical establishment came first, then major institutions and universities, and academic feminism fell last.
Now, most women who oppose it are censored and slighted as needing "re-education."

I had to beg and argue for over a week to get a proper citation in the WPATH Files report because I was told, in different terms, that my work was too dirty, not respectable enough, and that crediting me would put off mainstream media from promoting those involved.
The citation was added after much effort on my part, and after I was made to feel like I was a nuisance for expecting acknowledgement.
But the whole time, I was getting these kinds of messages. I ended up feeling like I had been used and ripped off, while also fearing that expressing this would be offensive or get me into some trouble.

When you reduce the surrogacy argument to one of "homophobia," it is clear it's you who doesn't care about the women and children being exploited.
Instead of framing the argument as a human rights abuse against women and children, as it truthfully is, you're more concerned with the demographics of the buyers.
If a gay couple buys babies, and people notice, that's just an excuse to unleash your hatred of women - rather than to condemn the industry outright.
If that is the game you want to play, I can play it: it is not rich socialite women who are lobbying internationally to expand the surrogacy industry. Gay men are doing that.
One such organization, Men Having Babies, lobbies governments where surrogacy is illegal. It also secures funding for gay couples and single men to buy babies.
Gay men are also more likely to want a woman to bear twins, as they want a genetic baby from both fathers. This puts an unnecessary health risk on the woman and children for the sake of paternity certainty.
The surrogacy process is painful and involves the use of drugs which are not being studied for the long-term impact, and some anecdotal evidence reveals an increased risk of reproductive cancers in women who undergo the procedure.
Babies are removed from their mother and sold like puppies - sometimes to pedophiles. Surrogacy is human trafficking no matter who does it. But it doesn't escape my notice that surrogacy is promoted under the guise of being an "LGBT" issue.
