An alternative would be to downgrade to, say, Windows 7. That would make the machine snappy again. I just don't know if current Firefox + NVDA still support it.

I've been a Windows User since 1995 and only switched to Mac in 2023, and I agree that no matter how big of a machine you throw at it, it's gotten really sluggish. I think Microsoft has pretty much lost its focus, chasing after Cloud and AI services in the recent years ☹️

how about running "Windows on Arm" on your Mac? It would probably be faster than on an original Arm-based Windows machine 😅

If you *just* block the app that's not enough. Our kids hacked themselves around it by opening/clicking a link to YouTube in other apps with embedded browser, like WhatsApp or the Google Search app. You really have to block it in your router. But then they start switching to their mobile plan. I also found out that every (social) app now mimics TikTok by offering clips, too: Instagram Reels, Snapchat Spotlight, Spotify Clips, etc. So they also defer to those. It's tough...

usually exactly 6 months, aka 6 versions. BTW, in one of my current projects I also target TVs, which are waaaay behind with their Chromium versions 😅
And the PS4, which is Netfront NX which is the most recent WebKit, but without document.scrollingElement (Wtf?) 😱😂

I think there can't be such a document from W3C as they can't foresee on what kind of input devices you will use these UI elements in the future. Imagine them having tied interaction to a keyboard in their spec and then the iPhone comes along.
But there certainly is some place that documents the ways user agents implemented these UI elements, and if someone knows it, it would be @npub15dl…nlg5
