Yes, I agree. There are situations as those you mention.
However, statistically speaking, the abuse of the #UK welfare system is minimal.
Abuse is euphemistically grouped into what they call 'Overpayments'. It is 3.3%.
Most likely, the majority of these 'Overpayments' are not abuse but due to administrative issues. In addition, there is 0.4% of 'Underpayment'.
That means 97% of the welfare arrives exactly at the people it is intended for.

The IDF and Israel don't realise it are these acts of deception, that they have conducted over many years, that made people stop believing anything they say.
The last few years, they had to admit over and over again that the information they provided was made up.

The worst situation is not that you are refused entry, but that they allow you in and then ICE immediately takes you in for deportation. An ordeal that can take months while filling the coffers of the commercial deportation centres.

I am not afraid that all that AI collecting information will result in a drone strike on me, but I am afraid that systems such as those from Palentir will prevent me from entering the USA by overzealous customs agents who feel that posts such as this are against the US's interest.
I was asked to speak at a conference there next month, but I doubt if in the current political climate I will accept that invitation. Even though going would be a wise move for my company to go.

Her speech shows that it is the Israelis themselves who say that Jews are the only ones entitled to Palestine.

Thanks, I didn't know that deep-sea animals can see each other through bioluminescence, which makes their bodies their own light source, with colours ranging from nearly violet to green-yellow.
This is also an important sentence in the article you gave: 'turning on bright lights may permanently blind light-sensitive sight organs.'
That implies that we seeing those deep-sea animals might cause their death, as we need torches to see them.

I disagree that there is no way to distinguish transwomen from men.
Transition is a long and difficult process. During that time, people inside that process are deeply emotionally affected while they prepare for a life that fits them more.
They do not want to stand out. Most of them hate drawing attention and therefore try to fit in as much as possible when they are among women.
Opinions about transwomen are more formed by prejudice than based on actual experiences.

I find the power of police unions in the USA indeed counterproductive to the mission of the police.
A union should not defend bad and corrupt behavior of their members, otherwise it will become less effective and is able to achieve less for all good members of their union.

This is the weirdest thing that I have read this month.
I agree with Lea, you should go out in the fresh air and talk to some normal people.
Some achievements of Unions that you also benefit from: higher wages, better benefits, safer workplaces, protection against unfair treatment, minimum wage, the 40-hour workweek, child labor laws, and various worker protections.
In several countries, unions achieve this by strategically working with management.

Besides associating this beautiful little girl with what is now happening in #Palestine, I also think about the fact that #Trump is now deporting 2-year-old US citizens to other countries.
I never expected that #Israel would top the charts of #inhumane behaviour, or that the #USA would stop due process for its own citizens.

This is the end game on rich people not paying taxes on stock:
'The basis for inherited stock is reset to the value on the date of death. If the heirs immediately sell, the capital gain and taxes on that gain would both be zero'
So, only inheritance tax would apply, no capital gain tax. The collateral bank loans are paid off and the rich person lived wealthy without paying taxes

#Musk, as the owner, has the freedom to cancel #X accounts and even assign them to other people.
He already did that and assigned people a different account because he wanted to have theirs.
That he wants to do that again for Alex Jones, shows that anybody who says something negative about Musk is at risk of losing their account (and #followers).
The only way to be assured of a self-owned, independent follower base is by being on a federated platform such as #Mastodon

In my lifetime, and in history books, I have not yet found a system that works better than capitalism.
The current wealth in the hands of a few is ridiculous and horrendous, and an example of capitalism really gone wrong.
Money that should go to education, health care, and infrastructure in the hands of a few.
And that is why we need regulation.
But I have not yet seen another system that stimulates human creativity and innovation as much as capitalism.

Capitalism: an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit.

Since I have no faith in other systems, I prefer to return to a more regulated version of capitalism than the free market that has been pushed onto us during the last 30 to 40 years.

A large part of healthy people's unhappiness comes from wanting more, more and more.
If we want to share the world with 8 billion people, there is no place for more, more, more. As a society, have to live within our means.
That has nothing to do with the ridiculous and damaging amount of money that can be hoarded in our current system by the 0.01%
Money that is necessary for the common good, from education, to health, to infrastructure, is landing at the hands of a few

I strongly disagree with stating that people are poor because of the comparison with the rich.
Unhappiness comes largely from our obsession with comparing ourselves with other people.
Whether I am poor or not should depend on whether I can meet my family's daily requirements; it should not depend on how much my neighbour owns.
This focus on wanting to have at least as much as the other destroys the world—a never-ending cycle of more, more, more.

The definition of wealth varies. To me, somebody who doesn't have to live from paycheck to paycheck and can afford a house and family expenses is wealthy.
Under my definition, more people could be wealthy if they kept their expenses down.
Wealth, to me, is not how much you own but how much freedom you have with what you earn.

The wealth that some people have acquired over the last three decades is both horrendous and wasteful.
That is all money they cannot use themselves, and that could have been used for the greater good.
Instead, we reduced regulation to allow, for example, companies to pay wages so low that people still need food stamps to survive. To say capital is worth more than labour.
There is no need to replace capitalism. There is a need to regulate it again.

I agree that unregulated capitalism has taken away the wealth workers produced and given it towards the rich.
But capitalism has also spurred a world of innovation, which has resulted in better health care, better food security, and fewer wars than ever before.
We started regulating capitalism early in the 20th century, and it brought unparalleled property to the middle class.
We forgot those lessons. Let's regulate #capitalism again so it works for all again.

I prefer to regulate a system that has brought us so much good over stepping into the 'unknown'.
Particularly 'with those stakes'.
Unregulated capitalism is a disaster. But the unknown can be worse.
So, I prefer regulating the extreme inequality that was brought to us by tax cuts for multi-millionaires.
Those tax cuts have resulted in a system without money to invest in education, health care, infrastructure, and helping the poor climb the ladder.

Capitalism is still the system that brings the most prosperity to most people
But, as they discovered in the 1920s, capitalism needs to be regulated.
We forgot that lesson. We thought that if we made the rich even richer, everybody would benefit.
There is no trickle-down economics. There is only hoarding
We need to return to a period of prosperity for all —capitalism with progressive taxes—a system that works well for everybody. Even the rich need a wealthy population
