I have a small rock garden in front of my house and I’m going to turn it into a “Kindness Garden”. My goal is to paint rocks with kind, hopeful, inclusive messages and pictures. A lot of kids live on my street and I’m hoping they might like the messages, or even want to take a rock with them.

I’m really struggling today. It turns out I didn’t handle yesterday’s “is a maniacal blood-thirsty narcissistic dementia-ridden psychopath going to commit mass genocide in my name?” waiting-game as well as I thought I did. I’m grateful he didn’t go through with it & I’m so shamed of and heartbroken by my country. A once-great civilization has been wiped out, but it is us. I don’t know what to do anymore, but I have appts to keep, clients to see & taxes to file, so I guess I just keep doing that?

not sure if it’s state-wide but CSFD is going to start using color coded action-oriented alerts called “Ready Set Go”. Green “Ready” level = create a go bag and evacuation plan, sign up for alerts. Yellow “Set” level = load the go bag, food, and water in the car. And red “Go” level = evacuate now. People need concrete actionable steps for effective disaster preparedness, and I think this is a really good public messaging approach.

I think I saw the #aurora tonight!!! (Lots of light pollution so I couldn’t see much with my bare eyes, these pics are with long exposure on my phone)
Seeing the aurora borealis in person is on my lifelong bucket list, I’m very excited. At least I hope this was actually the aurora and I was not just seeing things lol.

Photo of my girl from last night. We have an old red pillow in our bedroom that Diamond likes to sleep on while we’re getting ready for bed. Two nights ago, Henry got there first and claimed it. By the end of my internship year, his tough exterior had melted, replaced with an easy humor, thoughtful conversations, & hard-earned respect (as much as a highly esteemed psychologist could respect a lowly intern). That was the most meaningful part of my internship.
Today I learned that he had been quite ill the last couple of years. In very bad shape. I hadn’t known. A great man laid low. My heart breaks for his family & I wish I had kept in touch better. I regret losing touch.

This is hitting me harder than I would have expected. I don’t know why. My aunt died a couple months ago. Then, I put on my psychologist’s hat, turned on my compartmentalization skills, & stayed strong to help my mom & cousins.
There’s no one to be strong for right now. It’s just me. Maybe that’s why it’s hitting so hard.
I will miss Glen. I will keep trying to live up to his example. I hope he rests in peace & I hope somehow he knew how much he changed my life for the better.

When I first met him, I was terrified, I felt so intimidated and inadequate to match with his program. He was tough and rigorous, and sharp as a tack. He had high expectations and gave brutally honest feedback. But I developed a deep respect for him and learned so much. I gained both humility and confidence.
He made me believe I could be more, that I could do important things, that I could handle more than I thought, that I could trust myself even in difficult situations.

The last time I saw him was ~15 yrs ago and although I am terrible about keeping in touch, I thought of him frequently. What would Glen do in this situation? What would he encourage me to do? What did he teach me that might help in this situation? What constructive feedback would he have given me?
I’ve had a lot of great teachers/mentors in academia & professionally, but I think he had the greatest impact on the professional decisions I’ve made & where I’ve ended up since then.

I found out that one of my professional mentors died this morning. He was one of my clinical supervisors during my doctoral internship. I hadn’t spoken to him in several years, although I frequently “meant to” reach out and see how he was doing. Last I heard, he had retired and was living the good life with his family. He had even self published a couple books (fictionalized memoirs), which I had bought, read, and enjoyed.

You have described what I’ve been feeling, but haven’t been able to articulate. I value public broadcasting, but lost respect for NPR when they began appeasing MAGA more and more. If we bail them out, will they just continue both-sidesing and throwing softballs to MAGA? Sometimes I think people (or companies) need to lie in the bed they’ve made. I’m not saying I want NPR to fail, but I’m feeling very conflicted about helping. Everyone needs $$ right now, and most of us aren’t rich.

I have a tendency to give to individuals and companies that are directly advocating for and supporting victims of the trump regime, the ones that are targeted and struggling *because* they won’t back down (not, in spite of backing down). The Trevor Project, Planned Parenthood, immigrant legal services, PBS, HRC, etc. They earn my sympathy and support, and I don’t feel conflicted about it. Maybe I should rely less on my feelings and think more logically about it, but that’s where I am… 🤷🏻‍♀️

I recently saw a tourism ad from #Quebec #Canada that nearly made me cry. A visitor is checking in at a hotel. When the clerk asks where he’s traveling from, he looks ashamed and whispers “I’m American”. The clerk presses a button under the desk, which I initially thought was a panic button. Instead it unlocks a panel allowing her to come out from behind the desk, and she gives the guy a big hug. I nearly lost it. I wish I could move to Canada. This meant a lot to me.❤️

Hello everyone. 👋 It’s Tuesday. I woke up feeling anxious, snarky, and impatient #today. But my pest control guy has already been by to spray for spiders & remove a small wasp nest for me, so that helps me feel calmer.
It is likely to #hail later, so I’m going to set up my homemade hail nets over my flowers & hope for the best.
Speaking of hail, #TodayILearned from NatGeo that the largest hailstone ever recovered in the US fell in S. Dakota in June 2010. It was 8” in diameter & weighed ~2 lbs.

Hello friends. 👋 It is Sunday. It is very hot and windy in my area. If your area is also experiencing extreme heat, I hope you are able to stay cool.
#Today I learned that heat is always transferred from hot to cold. So if you feel cold, it’s not because something (like an ice cube on your skin) is giving you coldness. Instead, your body is transferring its own heat to the ice cube. You feel cooler simply because you are less hot.

Honestly, I am ashamed to say I was too afraid to attend the protest in Colorado Springs, and stayed home. 😞 I tried to offer support and encouragement to protestors via Mastodon, but I know that falls far short. Based on my local news media, several hundred people attended (although they usually undercount), it was peaceful, and nobody was hurt by MAGA or law enforcement (thank goodness). I will try to be braver and find more ways to participate, I promise.

I just got back from an appointment for testing to see if I have Big Scary Medical Condition, and tbh the most difficult, stressful part of it was sitting in the waiting room with a Magat mother-and-son who were loudly reading foxnews headlines, laughing, making derogatory comments about protestors and immigrants, and cheering deportations. We are a sad broken country.
So if you’re wondering whether “normal Magats” are regretting their vote or are ashamed of what’s happening? They are not.
