And having re-read the toot...we are *definitely* talking about the same writer, and they are absolutely NOT fascist or fake-progressive.
Read their work closely. They come from a journalism/business background and aim towards self-help (like you, but w/ a very different resume), which involves certain assumptions that might come off as fashy in someone with a tech background. This is exactly why I'm making this point, painting that writer is fascist is a huge false positive.

Hang on, while that kind of rhetoric is totally wrong, not everyone who believes it is fascist adjacent. It's a pretty traditional and widespread view on history and society. Or put another way, being a Romaboo doesn't make you a fascist - the fact that a lot of them are fascists is a whole other thing.
Also if we read the same writer today, they are NOT fascist adjacent at all. Nor are they in tech, so much as 'popular on Mastodon', which can sometimes seem like the same thing.

Non-UK here, I mostly agree. I believe the *right* to jury trial is sacrosanct and the UK Government should fuck right off, but in a functioning system, I would waive trial by jury. Key point, it's a choice I would make - I wouldn't want that choice taken away.
I think the 'democracy = virtue -> trial by peers = fair trial' error is being restated here as 'diversity = virtue -> jury = fair'. Juries defend against institutional tyranny, but are a poor guarantee of a fair trial.

Speaking of critical thinking, the biggest bullshit smell about this story is the first line, 'a harvard student told me'...dropping big status names is such a part of online bullshit stories, because people instantly give the story credibility as though they heard it directly from an actual harvard student.
Notice the 'downside' still implies that ChatGPT is super powerful and you need to get on the wave or Skynet will make you obsolete? ChatGPT guerilla marketing.

If I remember my teenage years properly, there was also literally never an issue finding content you liked, because community practices did the job that centralised websites claim only they could do.
Remember webrings? If you liked a website, webmasters would have HTML banners that would link you to similar sites.
The firehose model of content discovery is unnecessary for the consumer, but vital for parasitic corporate interests.

I'd take that even further, claims of intimidation are racist horseshit. For non-Antipodeans, the Kiwis hold a haka during rugby games. Those MPs know fucking well what a haka is, and it's not a threat.
NZ was founded on a treaty with it's indigenous peoples. Claiming their culture as intimidation is racism disguised by cowardice, and everyone involved knows that.
They weren't 'letting hell loose', they were performing an appropriate protest. This is racist BS.

Morality isn't legality, scraping is theft.
As to your question, there are also many dead arts replaced by inferior, capitalist friendly alternatives. Disney killed it's fantastic hand animation with 'brother bear', (look it up) Disney's hand animation AFAIK is now impossible to replicate, killed by inferior tech (90's CGI), by the hand of capitalism.
And my question - why speculate? AI has been here for 3 years. Where's the great art? Or the new arts and crafts?

I decide, you decide, we decide. If it's such a great tool, where's the evidence?
I get what you're saying, but if we were to list tangible harms to artists (lost revenue and content theft), examples of aesthetically foul slop, or the complete lack of artistic process, it would be easy to pull up evidence.
As for artistic potential, sure I can imagine it as you say it, but I would struggle to offer evidence. Can you offer some?

Technology isn't a straight line where new = better.
There are good technologies, and bad technologies. This is a bad technology.
There are technologies that are good tools for art, and technologies that are bad tools for art. All told, unless you count hentai with weird fingers, it looks like a bad tool for art.
There are technologies that benefit the many, and technologies that benefit the few...etc etc ad nauseum.
I'm labouring the point, but open your eyes.

Respectfully, you both have a point. Attacking grieving parents is awful. Also, a lot of discussion on anti-vaccine stances is hostile and demeaning, because we're so very right it's 'okay'. This keeps them in their circles, reading propaganda.
However, these are not grieving parents, they're neglectful parents so blind that they choose to profess politics rather than grieve. They don't get courtesy, they killed their child.
