@npub17r2…e0pa @npub1d93…cnl2 I remember someone (don't remember who...) saying you don't recover from burnout, because burnout happens when you are doing more than you can sustain. You have to find a way to reduce stress, effort, pushing too hard, masking too hard, trying too hard. You can't go back to running at 120%.

My employer, like so many others, has been forcing the use of hallucination machines. During a meeting recently we were talking about using it, and I referred to it as "it".
Obviously, it is proper English to do so. But, one coworker was shocked by this and asked me why I used that word. I calmly explained that it is a large very flawed statistical model and nothing more, so "it" is the appropriate word.
I think that blew their mind. Their reaction was just silence.
I miss actual intelligence

I know that a lot of programmers are having a hard time finding work, and it is a shitty time to ask, but I just heard a rather concerning rumor... So...
If any of you happen to know of an opening for a programmer with a lot of experience with C, golang, and many other languages, with a lot of knowledge about cryptography and Internet standards, that pays well and is either in Portland or happy with remote work...

I am #ActuallyAutistic, and I don't see it that way at all. Being weird isn't about performing, or using my energy budget. Being weird is about unmasking, and being your real self without worry of being judged. Being weird is about making any behaviour that isn't harmful to others be accepted, so that any stim, or accommodation is accepted.
Because if everyone is weird, then no one is.

They are amazing animals! They are extremely intelligent, and with a lot of time and effort you can develop a very close and strong relationship with them.
But, they are wild animals. They haven't been bred to be pets for thousands of years like dogs and cats have been.
Smaller parrots are indeed much easier, and some species are much more likely to bond with a single person, which is very problematic.

I've had many, and absolutely love them... But they are a very difficult pet to properly care for. Especially the bigger ones.
I fostered cockatoos for a rescue a few years ago, and ended up adopting an umbrella cockatoo. He was amazing and I fucking love him, but after a few years I returned him to the rescue and they found him another home. He was fine with me, but he was violent with my wife and kids.
Parrots aren't good pets.

The other day, I was wearing a tshirt that said "fuck transphobia" (it still says that, but the point is it said it the other day) while in the checkout line at a grocery store.
The woman working the register appeared to be having a bad day, but was trying to be cheerful.
When I got to the front, she saw my shirt and she smiled and her eyes lit up. It looked like she was holding back tears.
A lot of people are scared right now, and need to know we are on their side.

But, they did anyway. They supported Trump. They may not have voted for Trump, but not voting for Harris did nearly as much harm.

My wife just got home from her first day at her new job as a nurse here in Portland. She said someone sat her down in a closed office and told her "Just so you're aware, Portland is a sanctuary city, and we are a sanctuary hospital. We help everyone, and believe in..."
