On Tuesday, the CMA announced that Apple and Google have proposed app certainty and interoperable access commitments. Of particular interest to OWA was the interoperability requirements, as we have argued that the CMA should impose an equivalent to Article 6(7) of the DMA.
While it's good that the CMA has chosen to include interoperability requirements, the requirements that Apple has laid out are simply too weak to possibly be effective.

Japan’s new Smartphone act requires that Apple allow browser vendors to use their own engines in Japan. However, Apple looks set to use the same tactic it has used in the EU to avoid complying with the same provision of the Digital Markets Act for the last twenty-one months.

nothing. Apple has not allowed third party browsers to run web apps with their own engine. The only viable solution however is each home screen web app to run via its installing browser. The web apps data storage is unique to the browser it runs in, and at this time there is no feesible transfer mechanism the OS could implement between browsers and browser engines that would port all of cookies, session storage, localstorage, idb, WebSQL, cache, opfs etc.

This may have been true a year ago, but the reality is it doesn’t actually matter, since energy efficiency can be a point of competition between browsers. The real issue is Apple likes to give a laundry list of excuses to regulators of why they have to exclude third party browsers on iOS including battery life.

To us we can't see anything that indicates it supports web-apps using the third-party engines in the documentation.
The cookie copying stuff is one of the reasons, why would the browser need to copy it's own cookies?
Additionally there's nothing about settings, or custom setting per web app or how stuff about how to setup your browser to hook into Web.app

EU Commission has opened a proceeding into the process Apple has set up to address interoperability requests submitted by developers and third parties for iOS and iPadOS.
This is a specification proceeding to "assist Apple in complying with its interoperability obligations".
The EU commission states the process to address interoperability requests should be "transparent, timely, and fair".

Apple applies no competitive pressure on the web ecosystem, they don’t compete on windows, iOS or Android. They’ve almost certainly drained Firefox and other browsers billions of $ worth of revenue over the past decade.
Every other browser vendor would disagree with your assessment that Apple is contributing to browser diversity.

this is another example of a terrible UI from Apple to make it difficult for users to switch browsers.
Safari makes Apple 20b USD per year, 14% of their net profit via Google search advertising. These sums of money are so insane Apple is heavily incentivized to prevent browser competition at all costs.

Explain how that could be a bug?
Every browser displays the default switcher but if the app is Safari and Safari is the default it doesn’t display.
This is almost certainly intentional code.

What needs improving?
1. Browser's need the ability to manage and install Web Apps with their own engine
2. We need install prompts in Safari or Web Apps won't be viable
3. API access for browser's needs to be stronger, strong enough to allow browsers to compete with native
4. Current and Future functionality can not be exclusive to Native Apps, Apple (and google) need to ensure browsers can offer equivalent functionality via the web.

In a great post by Bruce Lawson, he goes into detail about why you should write to the UK regulator about Web Apps.
Without these remedies web apps might not be viable for years to come. The web needs your help by next Thursday (29th August)
