By the way: what you hear about now is the reaction of *governments* to the oil price shock.
You will not hear about families - potentially millions - huddling around their kitchen table to see if the family finances allow for buying or leasing rooftop solar -- until one day it becomes a "surprise" story.
This is what happened in Pakistan, which went from "from an inconsequential solar market to the sixth-largest in the world."

Charging infrastructure is key: if you live in an apartment building it's not up to you individually to decide where and how you can charge your e-car. (For e-bikes, you simply carry the battery upstairs to plug it in).
In densely populated Delft (Netherlands) I see a single car charging point at an intersection flanked by 400 apartment units. That's not charging infrastructure, that's a slap in the face.

The *average* use of the electric motor is 6 L/100km (39 mpg).
For Posches, it's 7 L/100km.
However:
"The lowest fuel consumption levels were found in the cheaper end of the PHEV market, in Kia, Toyota, Ford and Renault vehicles, which often used under one litre per 100km." That's while in electric mode.
1 L/100km = 235 mpg
While it's not zero consumption, it still beats the average monster SUV by far.
