The main problem is the bureaucracy associated for this. Another issue is the ownership control of the organisation (DEP Cybersecurity), the organisation needs to be controlled by EU citizen and located in EU.

It’s a difficult one. We see a lot of
people enjoying our matrix rooms for our open source projects but having a good indexed archive is hard.
Many of the tools doing matrix to html are old or unmaintained.

Indeed it's a valid point, some software doesn't support deletion from the protocol. But I suppose it's a minority looking at the stats and the argument could be the same for any Internet crawler or even common crawl dataset. There is no issue for those datasets. Maybe the Meta lawyers are too picky... or they had something else in mind when connecting.

I have a threads account and was looking for the Fediverse button for days until I discovered it's only for non-EU members. I think the GDPR arguments from Meta doesn't make sense as the protocol allow the deletion.
