It worked!!
It came out lighter than I expected, but still a nice cinnamon color.
I soaked a bucket full of black walnut hulls in warm water (set out in the sun) for about 24 hours, then added roughly 1oz of #angora fiber, simmered on the stove for 90 minutes, let it soak until it cooled (about 3 hours), and then finished it off with a few rinses.
I'm gonna pair this with some undyed fiber and make a pair of color work mittens.

Four days of #BlackWalnut foraging from a single 100+ year old tree in my yard. I've been filling a plastic shopping bag every day. I'll keep #foraging as long as this tree keeps providing 😊🌳
I've also got a vat of the hulls on the stove for a dye bath. Going to make a test batch of #HandDyed fiber - but first I gotta brush it off of the #AngoraRabbits !
If I like the color it gives me, I'll do another batch with the #linen I grew this year.

Today #InTheGarden :
1) The second round of Dragon Tongue beans are coming in strong!
2) Evidence of my sunflower seeds being sampled. I believe the culprit is the American Goldfinch I spotted the other day
3) The 1,500 Year Old Cave Beans are finally popping off! I've been disappointed in these all summer, but now it's looking like I'll get a harvest after all.

*only* until Easter? I'm hopeful to harvest about a dozen acorn squash late next month and I have no idea how I'm going to eat them all before next fall 😂

I haven't posted an #InTheGarden update in a while, so here's some highlights from earlier in August:
1) The Golden Giant Amaranth is now taller than me
2) No one told me Cowpeas grow straight up - this was a surprise!
3) Tomatoes!! These got a late start but they're finally producing
4) At least a dozen blooms on this Hopi Black Dye Sunflower

Before vs. after drying Golden Oyster mushrooms in the sun. It's insane how much volume was lost.
Now to stash these in the pantry until soup season
