Well instead of a dairy what about a blog, i feel the more general format allows for writing down of not just "thought of the day"/"thought of the moment" like a dairy but also of more effort intensive entries like articles.
I personally am looking into better organizing my vimwiki to separate entries in private and non private ones, converting it to markdown, pushing all the non private stuff to github and running it through one of the many static site generators to start a blog of sorts.
