I had a MateBook X Pro 2020 that worked perfectly with Ubuntu (except the fingerprint reader) ... until I broke a few keys and spilt coffee on it. Was a really good machine, with a touchscreen and good performance, excellent value for money, but sadly not easily repairable. Which is why I replaced it with a Framework 13!

I'm happy that, not wanting to accept the monthly price hike from 7 to 10 Euros, or the annoying cursor adjacent Copilot prompt, my wife decided to finally join me and switch permanently to the latest version of LibreOffice (@npub1tgg…qwzh). One less customer for Microsoft, one more user for quality, free, libre and open source office software, without the annoying, planet-burning AI.

I know WordPress has an ActivityPub plugin under active development, allowing posts to be posted to the Fediverse, the blog to be followed as an account on the Fediverse, and comments under Fediverse posts to be displayed as comments under the blog posts on the original blog page.

I wanted to add that, with respect to Twitter, I see that nice toots seem to get far more real engagement than the same tweets on Twitter/X, in terms of more likes, more boosts, and also more and longer written and nicer, more positive responses. There seem to also be lots more lovely people around here! 🫂

My mum wants to join the #Fediverse - as she's fed up with adverts in other social media - and I have no idea what server would be best for her.
She's in her seventies, likes gardening, outdoors, cats and dogs, travel, books..
