@nprofile…t94w Nailed it Smooy, and if you have multiple large comms at once, it can feel overwhelming too especially if you're a newer artist.
Talking and planning things out, setting schedules and expectations is not only healthy for artist/client relationships by reducing stress and uncertainty,
but good for business in general by letting income trickle in over time rather than in large bulk which can cause some problems and for the client by allowing them to better manage their spending money.

Like, say you want a big color piece with multiple characters.
and it comes out to around...$400 or so.
We can break that down into smaller pieces by going character by character in a sequence and by level.
and then we schedule the approach on a weekly basis. As in "I want to see at least of the characters sketches by friday."
"Okay, I agree to this and expect $45 upon delivery"
Then it's settled and we build momentum and consistency that way.

But I don't actually like being paid all up front for my work. Nor do I want to paid after doing all the work. I think there are too many risks in both approaches from a sensible business perspective.
I greatly prefer the goal-oriented approach, because it's more flexible.

What Baraag lacks in numbers it makes up for in authenticity.

@nprofile…d7zp But what makes it extra good is that it's an all-in-one tool. MakeHuman seems specifically made to create human characters that you later export to blender.
Daz not only lets you use resources specifically made for the app, but also import non-daz formats like OBJ and FBX, and...this is what matters most.
Make scenes in full within daz itself.
I don't know a lot about MakeHuman, but I assume if you want to use things like chairs. walls, props, etc, you need to export to blender.

@nprofile…d7zp Daz works the exact same way, and while there's no specific linux version, Daz is a 21 year old software with millions of assets both premium and free made for its use and easy to implement.
Daz, like MakeHuman also uses slider to change shapes of the models with many add-ons to meet any need. Young, Old, Fat, Thin, Tall, Short, Masculine, Feminine, Androgynous, Stout, Lithe
The potential is limitless.

I'm not looking to do 3D CGI porn so I have no incentive yet to change to blender or other apps. Like I said, I use Daz to make references for my drawings and paintings and for that, it's more than enough
I've been using Daz for about 8 years now, and I'm still learning what it can do.
I have seen other artists use blender and they do amazing work, but they're also making more custom, complicated stuff like Mecha or Sci-Fi vehicles.

Feel free to ask me any questions and I'll share what I know to make it easier to add Daz to your artistic toolkit. There is a learning curve, and even with this explanation is just the tip of the iceberg for explaining things.
As for my clients listening in, yes you can use that to make your own refs as well, or you can just ask me to do it. I already do it anyways, but it'd be nice to have your direct input.
I actually want y'all a part of the process and not just an observer.

A part of me hopes that Daz can not only help artists who might have trouble with visualizing their ideas, but clients as well.
In my experience, it's one thing to have an idea in your head and another to share that idea with others.
if you have trouble articulating and explaining your ideas, a visual demonstration is always more effective than words could ever be.
Most artists are visual people anyways and probably prefer refs to words 99.9 percent of the time.

Okay, but what should you be looking for.
Well, as a starting point I only use Genesis 8, which the second-most-recent base model of the program, Genesis 3 can be good too, and Genesis 9 is "Better"
But there's just more to work with using 8 and it gets the job done while also not having too much jank.

Daz is not perfect, and I warn you to not let it be too much of a crutch.
Best of all, it's ethical and fair in way most other means are not, like tracing photos or "AI"
That said, not everything is available straight out of the box, you'll have to find the means to get the resources on your own, ideally by paying the creators who made those tools if they're still available.

Don't get me wrong, the program CAN be memory intensive, but it's more accessible than you think even on beat-up junkers and laptops and gives you all the customization you need to meet your artistic needs.

Here's are some refs I made in Daz sometime last year. There are ways to not only turn off textures, but change the modes to make rendering easier to use on weaker computers. You can add background elements both simplified and detailed, and of course adjust the sizes to make the models any which way you want

The answer, is Daz3D
It's free and powerful software that works as an intermediate between more nondescript 3D mannequin tools like what's available in Clip Studio Paint and just straight making stuff from the bottom up with Blender or MAYA. Some people here are already using Daz for 3D Porn and do great renders, but it's useful for artists too.

Yes you could make stuff completely from scratch and it's definitely faster at higher levels. But unlike machines with their flawless memory, human beings can and do struggle with the finer details of things end up leaning on impressions of things
It's why very new artists starting out make round eyes or "football" eyes
it is OKAY to not do everything from scratch or imagination.
