Yes, Swans can be a crushingly intense exploration of interpersonal power struggled & nihilism but I think their ability to accurately soundtrack the dread of painting bookshelves is under appreciated.

Saw #TheSubstance & it’s a great #cronenbergian body horror but some odd choices, notably it’s placement in a Universe where social media doesn’t exist… it’s maybe 30 mins too long but the repetition feels deliberately exasperating (like the last 20 mins of #AClockworkOrange ?)… I don’t buy the ‘male gaze’ criticism I’ve seen in some reviews - yes, #margaretqualley ‘s beauty & youth is ceaselessly objectified but it seems odd to deny women the agency to desire in a film directed by a woman…
