The couple people with birdbaths I've spoken to so far have been more in the "you don't need to clean it, it's outside" camp, which... >:\
Do you have some year-round birdbaths and some summer only? Or is it more a thing of swapping them out every spring/fall?
I had no idea about ground-level baths, but I guess it does make sense, since that is where a bird might look for a puddle.

I got too many home projects between now and then, but someday I'd like to put a bird bath outside, maybe even in winter with one of those heaters that keeps it just above freezing.
Do you have any trusted sources of info on how to responsibly set up and clean a bird bath? Like I see you've got rocks in yours, which looks nice and more like some water as it might appear in nature, but it also looks harder to keep clean.
(I'm in Michigan, so our biomes are similar)

A couple years back a pair of chickadees nested in a tree right outside our window. We thought we knew that the "hey sweetie" call was loud and territorial, but many times, while bird mom was sitting on eggs, bird dad would land on a branch near the hole, and he'd do a few very quiet hey sweeties.
Sometimes she would exit the nest and they'd both fly off together, and other times, after making a few calls, he'd perch right by the hole and poke his head in (we presumed delivering food).
Anyway that's how we learned that the hey sweetie call can sometimes actually just mean hey sweetie.

I get that "old enough to follow parent everywhere, constantly demanding to be fed" isn't by any means limited to birds. But there's something about it that always Gets Me.
Maybe something to do with birds and flight as symbols of freedom? Like, you're a bird, and you can go anywhere, do anything, until WHOOPS now all your babies can follow you everywhere, yelling at you about your responsibilities
