Bitwarden shipped a client update that requires Vaultwarden 1.37.0 — which also happens to close 8 medium-severity security advisories that don't even have CVEs assigned yet. Nixpkgs hasn't caught up. Stable currently points to 1.36.0. So I spent some time (unplanned) patching my server before the apps auto updated and relegated me to server website only.

Sam Altman called a Michigan data center site a "real template" for how AI companies should engage communities — standing on land where the town voted no, got sued for $25M it couldn't afford to fight, and settled. The vote didn't matter. The lawyers did.

largely it's a fools dream. most conventional hardware does not play well in space. So we'd be changing production lines and designing new hardware to handle that kind of work in space. Then unless it's a space station there's maintenance. Johnny not stopping his lunch at the breakroom to go reboot a locked server at the power button on a whim. Then with a datacenter, especially for AI, hardware must be replaced fairly frequently. Do you down it (where?) or do you make a trip?

It will be, it's more of a side project to them. The real business is windows, cloud, office, and they want it to be overall ai. Problem AI is extremely expensive to run at that scale.

ATT limited some tracking. Meta Pixel was a workaround. Fingerprinting is another one — and it doesn't need any permissions at all. While this isn't limited to just iOS — Android can be mined as well, Loupe is an open source iOS app that shows you the raw data your phone hands out by default. The third tier of signals is genuinely creepy.

mostly I think they gave up on having their own ai. Sure they will cover the basics oh like set a timer, write an email, etc that touch their apps and people's data. But I think they tried to get what they hyped (and every other big company in ai has hyped) out and discovered it was harder and way more expensive to do....so they are outsourcing for that expanded functionality.

simpler requests process on device, slightly more complicated go to apples servers, and the most complicated or demanding head off to google. However, they haven't specified examples of what would go where. Just that's how the new Siri should work. That said, some of that division also depends on your phone as the ones with less onboard memory can't do as much...which is basically regular 17 and below.

Apple Intelligence and a smarter Siri sounds great in a world where it's your choice, your hardware, or at worst a server sitting effectively next to the iCloud you're already trusting. The doc was co-created with AI. The humans verified every sentence and sent it to stakeholders anyway.

[@tech](https://flipboard.com/@tech ) Well given past several years I agree with the skepticism of MS handling Xbox in Xbox's best interests....that said it's usually same day or within days you see the same game pop up on the other system's feeds or being listed showing all the platforms on a multiplatform game. The only thing that previously would be shocking would been Halo 2027 Xbox, PS5, and Switch 2. not so much given the recent older arrivals on PS, but any other commonly multiplat....we already know or will shortly.

Checking out the subatomic particles: The Proton, Neutron, Electron, and the often forgotten Close-ad-button. One of these is not like the others — except it kind of is, because someone engineered it to behave like a law of nature. A little dive into the X that doesn't work. The DOJ subpoenaed Apple, Google, Amazon, and Walmart for the names, addresses, and purchase histories of 100,000+ people who downloaded a car diagnostics app.
Not the actual target, just people who had an app on their phone.
The company they actually want is in the Cayman Islands. So they went after the app stores instead.

Someone drew the diagram I've been writing about for months. Bloomberg called it back in October—circular deals, money rotating inside a closed loop, everyone investing in their own customers. I wrote about it in first few #TheranasAI posts. This is just...the picture version.
Also worth bookmarking: isaiprofitable.com — $1.4 trillion spent, $718 billion in revenue. Across the whole sector.

Wikipedia fired their lead dev of 20+ years and disbanded the team serving volunteer editors. Most were union organizers. The Foundation has $296M in reserves and fresh AI money from Microsoft, Meta & Amazon.
It's not just Wikipedia. Same pattern, different victims.

yeah they have some good customization. It's a really good search engine, I used it myself for a long time. I later went to startpage and then to kagi. I still have kagi and i also have my searxng server.

well in theory whoever reviews the PR/or if dev submits it for the ai generated should probably own it. but kind of wild wild west if you are just letting them doing everything as a free for all.

Not surprising but that sucks since it was somewhat the last reasonably price msrp out there for hardware to cost. Makes me worried to see what the new fardware will end up at when they go ahead and launch it.

well most money tends to go to c-suite and shareholders. You'll also notice most companies when they are cutting costs are talking efficiency don't look that hard at c-suite salaries and compensation. Usually try to avoid cutting into shareholder payouts too.

Everyone's cheering users for rejecting AI search by switching to DuckDuckGo. Ask AI is right on the search bar on the homepage, the DDG app Has AI in its official name. There is a no-AI option--on a subdomain most may never find. They didn't reject AI. They rejected Google and no choice. That's a real and meaningful distinction — it's just not the one being celebrated.

The whole industry has been screaming at you to enable MFA. Microsoft turned it into a mandate. So you complied. And now there's a subscription service selling access to exactly those "protected" accounts, using a legitimate Microsoft authentication flow they never bothered to retire.

it's interesting though I've not used it. To my understanding it's more for teams/orgs than individuals. Mostly just passwords and not as smooth for mobile. Also to my understanding is more setup than just install and sign in. Personally I'd keep vaultwarden or look into something else. Great tool but possibly not for what you want exactly?

A security researcher warned Microsoft in December about the exact attack vector that just got used to breach 3,800 of GitHub's internal repositories. They disclosed it in five tweets. Not their blog. Not their status page. Five tweets.
Let that sink in.
Apparently we've hit Act III of the ongoing decline of GitHub.

heh well the problem is when they inevitably de-orbit. Not sure musk cares enough to bounce them away from earth safely or do a proper deorbit to like Point Nemo. And well if it did, that's a crap ton of junk to keep dumping there like the orbital wastebasket.

The orbital data center pitch is broken at every layer, it's just marketing that sounds cool.
There's the hardware costs (space rated is more expensive), repair or just let it be space junk, the how do you power it? the list goes on and on.

I imagine eventually sony will port again, but right now they are licking self inflicted live service wounds and bemoaning hardware part costs and economic squeeze on new users. They wanna drive back as much value in getting the ps5/ps5 pro. Probably in hopes of once they feel they can launch a ps6 people will at least assume they need to play the next big thing. If everything hits pc (besides nintendo) why buy a console? Buy a pc or a handheld pc or the steam cube.
