in college we were similar often told not to use the existing standard libraries and such. They wanted us to build all the structures from scratch. Real world of course has been basically don't reinvent the wheel for no good reason.

I will never understand why windows update needs to reboot the machine like 3 times to install updates. batch that crap and get it done in one go. largely it's a fools dream. most conventional hardware does not play well in space. So we'd be changing production lines and designing new hardware to handle that kind of work in space. Then unless it's a space station there's maintenance. Johnny not stopping his lunch at the breakroom to go reboot a locked server at the power button on a whim. Then with a datacenter, especially for AI, hardware must be replaced fairly frequently. Do you down it (where?) or do you make a trip?

If I recall somewhere around end of xbox one and first s and x they started rattling off a list of new exclusives coming. I'm pretty sure most were canceled. few did launch but 2-3 exclusives is a hard sell when your competion launching 2-4 good to great experiences a year and also gets the same 3rd parties

ATT limited some tracking. Meta Pixel was a workaround. Fingerprinting is another one — and it doesn't need any permissions at all. While this isn't limited to just iOS — Android can be mined as well, Loupe is an open source iOS app that shows you the raw data your phone hands out by default. The third tier of signals is genuinely creepy.

So we teased PS gamers with a ew "exclusives" and now we are removing some title(s) we had hinted would be over there in hopes they say "I gotta play that, I gotta get a sub, buy pc, or get me an xbox!"
now I've not seen there last thing but Sony seems to be hinting from there State of Play a bit more focus on single player experiences they tend to excel at....so good luck with that? That strategy did wonders for MS over the last several years

mostly I think they gave up on having their own ai. Sure they will cover the basics oh like set a timer, write an email, etc that touch their apps and people's data. But I think they tried to get what they hyped (and every other big company in ai has hyped) out and discovered it was harder and way more expensive to do....so they are outsourcing for that expanded functionality.

simpler requests process on device, slightly more complicated go to apples servers, and the most complicated or demanding head off to google. However, they haven't specified examples of what would go where. Just that's how the new Siri should work. That said, some of that division also depends on your phone as the ones with less onboard memory can't do as much...which is basically regular 17 and below.

based on the fact word is the offloaded ai compute wont be apple's hardware I'd lean towards a hard no. I mean sure they will wrap it all up in a neat package with an encrypted blah blah blah bow on it--but end of the day it's sitting on Google and Nvidia's hardware outside the garden walls.

Yeah I'm actually doing the same thing of late, most of the time it seems to be fine, but every now and then it acts a bit weird as if they made a change and someone left out the ispaidsub check or whatever they call it in their code. Officially they have said several times they want the ads or paid subscription, so it tracks that should be less picky about it with it.

they had tweaked them i think, but this is the big change. The previous one had swapped to where from what I read some of the usage was "costing" you more. this one though will likely really hurt users. If I'm not mistaken buried in there also removes the fallback simpler models if you run out.

The only thing that previously would be shocking would been Halo 2027 Xbox, PS5, and Switch 2. not so much given the recent older arrivals on PS, but any other commonly multiplat....we already know or will shortly.

well I'd largely argued for years technically the whole make users change passwords x number of days is security theater. Just makes most humans use easier passwords or be more prone to fat finger a convoluted one. Good password manager, strong rules, properly done mfa and only force a change if their is another issue seemed smarter to me. Granted I'm a dev not a security expert, but that is my observations.

So fun fact, a good way to waste 30-45 minutes when doing a companies mandatory 90 day pw change. Accidentally paste the random code also into the totp secret. Thankfully I have backups but it took a bit to figure out why MS suddenly thought my code was not expected 🤦🏻‍♂️. Not surprising but that sucks since it was somewhat the last reasonably price msrp out there for hardware to cost. Makes me worried to see what the new fardware will end up at when they go ahead and launch it.

well most money tends to go to c-suite and shareholders. You'll also notice most companies when they are cutting costs are talking efficiency don't look that hard at c-suite salaries and compensation. Usually try to avoid cutting into shareholder payouts too.

Everyone's cheering users for rejecting AI search by switching to DuckDuckGo. Ask AI is right on the search bar on the homepage, the DDG app Has AI in its official name. There is a no-AI option--on a subdomain most may never find. They didn't reject AI. They rejected Google and no choice. That's a real and meaningful distinction — it's just not the one being celebrated.

it's interesting though I've not used it. To my understanding it's more for teams/orgs than individuals. Mostly just passwords and not as smooth for mobile. Also to my understanding is more setup than just install and sign in. Personally I'd keep vaultwarden or look into something else. Great tool but possibly not for what you want exactly?

The orbital data center pitch is broken at every layer, it's just marketing that sounds cool.
There's the hardware costs (space rated is more expensive), repair or just let it be space junk, the how do you power it? the list goes on and on.

I imagine eventually sony will port again, but right now they are licking self inflicted live service wounds and bemoaning hardware part costs and economic squeeze on new users. They wanna drive back as much value in getting the ps5/ps5 pro. Probably in hopes of once they feel they can launch a ps6 people will at least assume they need to play the next big thing. If everything hits pc (besides nintendo) why buy a console? Buy a pc or a handheld pc or the steam cube.

what it seems like. they are pushing it and while not necessarily right off always going to use it...basically a glorified gemini chat window. So when it does it's thing you are just getting whatever it deems based on algorithm and training back to you on the display. It's possible they might return at least some results or you might could phrase the prompt to, but they just want you to literally ask and accept the answer.
