I was in a game store ~2007 and someone figured out who I was and rushed up to me and told me how seen they felt about my treatment of gender in Shock:Social Science Fiction.

My family went to an international bookstore & I went to the sci fi section.
I picked out Software. It had a direct impact on me. I studied Artificial Life in college, wrote about it, made RPGs about it.

#hagiwo #modularsynth #synthdiy #eurorack How frustrating. The #Arduino Nanos that I’m using (three varieties) don’t work in MacOS or Ubuntu. Old IDE doesn’t fix it. Reinstalling CH34n drivers either doesn’t work — can’t compile or it gives no feedback whether it’s really installed with their shitty installer.
I’ve cranked out dozens of gadgets that used these. And now I can’t flash them at all.

But this module uses an #Arduino Nano and I can’t get any of mine to flash. (Classic “sync” error) so I can’t see if it delays and loops.

@nprofile…en2w Ugh. My Zoom recorder apparently paws through every bit on the SD card when it boots.
If I had a 1G SD card in there, I'd be able to store close to 10 hours of audio.
I never need that. I need a few hours, tops.
But the smallest I can find that works is 32G. It takes something like 4 minutes to boot because of the big SD card.
Smaller capacity ones seem to be factory rejects and sold as a fraud you're unlikely to bother returning because they're so cheap.

Of those choices, it’s because it was Dutch, yeah. Completely separate colonial history. Huge Native cultural overlap between Iroquois Confederacy and the mutually intelligible languages to the east, but never let it be said that colonial projects aren’t happy drawing lines wherever through whoever’s families, tribes, clans, rivalries, and trade routes.

No, it’s not.
Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island.
The first four were all Massachusetts Bay Colony originally, then broke up because that’s a huge administrative area in the 18th c.
Rhode Island was formed by religious refugees from Massachusetts (never believe anyone who tells you Puritans were about “religious freedom”)

I can never choke down Kung Tzu because he’s opposed to social orders that operate on humanist principles. It’s all about social order and just sort of assumes that wellbeing comes from an emperor who tautologically is the right guy because no one has overthrown him.
That said, Taoists often wound up going the “dietary supplement” route, despite the beautiful parts.

A lot of Machiavelli (which I know better than Sun Tzu for the reasons you state) starts with “IF you want…” and that part doesn’t make it into the summaries. Or into even the basic analysis. But no one should read The Prince without reading The Discourses. Because the latter says “On the other hand, if you do not wish to simply accumulate power to yourself, but instead run a sustainable polity that doesn’t end with everyone you love dying in a pool of blood, become a republic.”

The Heavy Water route was pursued specifically because it avoided Jewish Physics.
Also, the scientists ordered to work on that route knew it wouldn't work, but the romantic fantasies they had to support wouldn't allow them to admit it.

What I was just describing is a management failure. Of course the scientists knew better — they were interested in how the universe worked. But they weren't allowed to study it for specious reasons.

Honestly, I don't know how I'd go about finishing anything of complexity without a thoughtful editor who wanted to help me make the book the best it could be.
