It is hard for me to accept that people may sometimes want to help selflessly.
I’ve grown so accustomed to false platitudes, transactional individuals, and hidden agendas that it almost makes me feel uneasy when someone offers to do something good — simply because they can.
For example, I have an aunt on my biological father’s side who would always offer to give me rides. She would insist on it, and I would nearly always decline, saying I could find my own way — but I appreciated the offer. Then there was one time I actually needed a ride. I had spent several hours helping her in the yard, from early afternoon until sometime after dark. I was tired, cold, and truly in need of a ride. She had told me earlier that day to let her know if I needed one. But when I did, she reacted as if I had asked for something outrageous. She got upset. Later, she even argued that I was inconveniencing her because she wanted to help out at her church — something I hadn’t known she had planned.
But I digress. I’ve become used to people giving false kindness, operating transactionally, or having an ulterior motive. Unfortunately, that often means people will offer help when I need nothing, but are conveniently unavailable when I actually do. This is why I’ve learned to be as independent and self-sufficient as possible — when I can manage it.
But as I said, it's why I can sometimes feel uneasy when someone genuinely wants to do good without expecting anything in return. It's a trait I possess myself, but one I seldom see in others — and even when I think I do, I'm always left a little unsure.

Arguably, The Pirate Bay was violating international copyright law — not just the laws of a single nation.
Everyone who has challenged my comment keeps citing extreme cases as examples. But that’s exactly the issue: those are extreme circumstances — just like The Pirate Bay itself.
If you’re reckless enough to violate global, internationally recognized laws, then yes, that’s a problem. But you are not obligated to recognize the laws of every country on Earth, nor can any one nation claim the right to make laws for the entire planet.

I’ve supposedly violated the laws of several countries in the past when I ran a forum community. I was allegedly summoned, sued, and even "lost" cases simply because I didn’t acknowledge them or show up. But I couldn’t care less then, and I still don’t — because it was all political theater. I wasn’t a citizen of those countries.
Back in the day, my forum had over 20 million users. I focused solely on following the laws of my own country — not the laws of every country on the planet.

I also don’t know where Blue Sky’s offices are. If they’re registered in a particular country, then they’re subject to that country’s jurisdiction.
But if you're running a forum or a Fediverse site, and neither you nor your server is located there, you can tell them to go to hell — because it’s not your problem.

I want to step in and point out that there’s a lot of misinformation circulating.
Some people have been incorrectly claiming that if one country passes a certain law, then everyone — everywhere — must comply with it.
That’s not how jurisdiction works.
You’re responsible for following the laws of your own country. Your government can’t impose its laws on the entire world, and neither can any other government.
For example, if Russia suddenly requires that anyone signing up for a website must pay $5 and submit a DNA sample — but your site, and you are based in France — you’re under no obligation to comply. Russia can make whatever demands it wants, but you’re not Russian, and it’s not your responsibility to enforce their laws.

While FOSS does offer a great deal of flexibility, there are still practical concerns around jurisdiction, especially when it comes to legal matters, security audits, and the involvement of major corporations. Even though the software itself is open and can be modified, the infrastructure and support around it — such as funding, legal protections, or compliance — can still be influenced by where the project is based or the entities involved. Moving to a more independent, EU-based model could help mitigate some of those risks and offer more sovereignty in the long run.
Furthermore, the concern remains that the U.S. government could potentially order a company to introduce a hidden backdoor into the software, and the corporation might not be free — or even able — to disclose this information. This is a serious issue, especially as political pressures grow. In a broader sense, the U.S. is increasingly resembling more authoritarian regimes like Russia or China when it comes to digital policies, where control over software and data is prioritized over privacy or transparency.
Even though FOSS allows you to examine the code, the reality is that no one can continuously monitor the entire system at all times. The complexities of modern operating systems make it incredibly difficult to scrutinize every line of code, especially as it evolves. This is why reducing dependency on American corporations and jurisdiction could be an essential step toward ensuring true independence and security.

Relying on America's IBM's Fedora Linux, CentOS Linux, and Red Hat Linux as upstream sources does not address many of the challenges that an independent, EU-based OS could solve.
It would be beneficial if your concept either became independent (via a hard fork), thus removing reliance on American businesses and jurisdiction, or if you developed a completely independent OS from scratch.

Fragmentation on the Fediverse is a real problem.
Hypothetically, let’s say I’m an admin. I don’t like "John Doe" (just a random example). Instead of simply blocking John Doe myself, I demand that "Billy Bob" — the admin of his instance — remove him entirely.
Billy Bob refuses, because John Doe hasn’t broken any rules. So, being an egotistical maniac, I blacklist Billy Bob’s entire instance — 5,000+ innocent users who had nothing to do with anything.
I also have 5,000+ users on my instance. Now you’ve got over 10,000 people who can’t communicate, all because of a personal disagreement.
This kind of thing happens far too often on the Fediverse. If you create more than one account (on different instances), you’ll likely discover people you didn’t even know existed — people you’d want to follow but previously couldn’t, due to the growing fragmentation across the network.
The scale of the problem becomes even more obvious when you move to a different instance. You’ll likely find that not everyone you currently follow can be followed from the new site.
The solution?
Right now, it means having more than one account just to keep in touch with everyone you want to follow.
How crazy is that?

On Twitter, I had over one million followers.
On Mastodon, I had 12,000 until I had to move, and the transfer did not go so well.
Upon another move, I had over 2,000 until I had to move, and the transfer did not go so well.
I can understand why some people choose Twitter or Blue Sky. The fragmentation, technical issues, and sometimes drama is the downside of the Fediverse many people do not want to put up with.

But I need people to understand that you have to inspire people to vote, and saying the other guy is going to be awful is not enough. It never is.

R.I.P. Baby bird, who we called, oak or oakie. 😞
This morning, the baby bird was silent, but physically was trying to walk around for the first time. I had hope they were recovering. They even seemed to be eating again.
But around 12-1:00 PM, baby bird started to move less, and didn't want food, again.
Baby bird, started breathing heavier, and I knew this was not a good thing (not at all). Baby bird rested in my hands, as I tried to keep them warmer, and passed away at 5:20 PM. 😭

Encryption isn't a guarantee. Jurisdiction matters.
Apps like WhatsApp and Signal are often praised for being end-to-end encrypted — and yes, that matters. But encryption alone doesn't make you untouchable. Both apps operate under U.S. jurisdiction, which means they're subject to secret subpoenas, gag orders, and surveillance laws like the PATRIOT Act or FISA. They can be compelled to comply with government demands, and they can be legally barred from disclosing it. Even with open source code, there's no guarantee the version running on their servers is what you see in the public repo. And encryption doesn't cover metadata — who you talk to, when, how often — all of which can be collected and handed over.
The U.S. has a long history of pressuring or infiltrating privacy-focused tools, even those with the best intentions. So while open source and encryption are essential, they're not enough. Who controls the infrastructure — and who has legal authority over it — matters just as much, if not more. If your privacy actually matters, and especially if you're concerned about state surveillance, it may be wiser to choose a provider outside the U.S., in a country with strong privacy protections and no ties to the Five Eyes surveillance network.
Trust isn't about good branding or nice promises. It's about legal boundaries, infrastructure control, and real-world accountability.

3rd day and baby bird is alive and hungry.
Yesterday, I was concerned. The baby bird was eating less, and even turning its head away from food. It mostly just lay there in overall the same spot, and even when it moved, it was not much, and I had to keep flipping the bird back upright (finding it stuck on its back).
This morning, I woke up to no sounds of chirping. I heard no movement either. But to my surprise, the bird was still alive and, for the first time, trying to stand upright.

The problem about caring for a wild baby bird, is you can do everything right, and things can still go wrong.
It is possible the baby bird was already compromised when it was found (injury, infection, deformity, undernourished by parents)
It is also possible that it may have had internal issues I couldn’t see - like neurological damage or organ defects. The height, from the bird nest and the porch the baby bird had landed on, was significant, and we couldn't reach it (else, we would have put it back).
Or it simply could be declining from stress, which is incredibly common in wild hatchlings without a mother’s round-the-clock care.
I've been caring for the baby bird every 20 minutes, but sometimes that's still not enough. My 2-hour mistaken nap, was likely not helping anything either, especially since the bird's eating was already on the decline (before my nap).
Regardless, I've provided warmth, food, hydration, and attention - things that have saved other baby birds in the past. Sometimes, though, even everything right isn't enough, and nature takes its course.
It is 8:30 PM now, and I've managed to get some food in the bird, before calling it a night. In the wild, the bird would be sleeping already, but I wanted to be sure they had that last, extra meal given the circumstances.
I hope tomorrow morning, I will hear a talkative bird, wanting more food.

Well, things are not looking well for baby bird. 😞
The baby bird does not seem to want to eat as often as a baby bird should. They should be fed between 15–20 minutes apart, baby bird did not want food for over an hour and thirty minutes.
After work, I laid down just for a bit, not meaning to sleep, but I ended up taking a nap for 2 hours. I figured the bird would be starving, but I had to keep waving the food in front of the bird.
I am using a tweezer to feed the baby bird, and I dropped the food, just as the baby bird finally tried going for it. I kept trying to get the bird to eat, only for the bird to seem to turn their head away from the tweezer.
I resorted to carefully opening their beak, just to put a small dab of food in them.
My other concern is, they don't move around much. Having cared for several baby birds previously, hatchlings tend to crawl all over the housing you place them in. This baby bird, does move around some, but mostly stays right where they are and rests.
Lastly, when they do move, a lot of the time I end up having to flip them back over, as they tend to get stuck on their back.

The new baby bird food mix I have made is:
1) Wet cat food (Fancy Feast, beef and chick mix)
2) Egg yolks (that’s the yellow part)
3) Cuttlebone ground into powder
4) Crushed eggs shells ground into powder
The bid is still eating, and pooping -- That's good. But does not seem to want to eat every 20 minutes.
Either something is wrong, or the mix is very filling. 🤔

The new development is the baby bird's eyes are starting to open.
Right now, they're just little slits, and the bird closes them up most of the time. But that gives us an idea that the bird about 4–5 days old. Which means, it was 3–4 days old yesterday, when I started caring for the bird.

Around 6:20 AM, the baby bird started to tweet loudly, letting us know they were awake, and hungry.
No sleeping in for me. lol
I had set my alarm for 7:00 AM, but I guess I am going to have to get used to waking up early again.
As expected, the baby bird was real hungry. I am still feeding them wet cat food. But I also just cooked a hard-boil egg, which will cool for a few hours before I mash that up. I also have a cuttlebone that I ground up into powder to add to their food.

Put the baby bird to bed for the night (as it would sleep overnight in the wild around this time too).
If the baby bird makes it overnight, I will know the baby bird has a better chance. I will also expand their diet to include not just the wet cat food (Fancy Feast, beef and chicken mix), but also include some finely mashed egg yolk and cuttlebone powder.

I have cared for a baby bird, before.
This bird still has their eyes closed, which makes it both higher risk (lower chance of survival), and harder to care for (it isn't easy to get them to open up for food, when they don't see you).
I am using a tweezer to pick rice size bits of soft cart food. I keep feeding it until he stops eating, and then I set my timer for another 20 minutes. The bird is eating, which is good, and has even pooped once already.
The baby bird is a baby sparrow.

I am currently playing the role of "ma ma bird" 👀 - That is to say, I am caring for a baby bird.
My niece is moving into her 1st apparent, and on the back porch was, unfortunately, the bad sight of a dead baby bird, which was being eaten by ants. Some distance away from this was another baby bird, flipped on it's back, flopping around, and unable to roll back over.
We wanted to return the bird back into the bird nest, which looked like it has been partly destroyed. While that itself is not a good sign, it appeared at least one bird kept trying to repair the nest, only for the wind to blow more bits of it down. Lastly, we could not safely reach the bird nest, even if we tried (and we did try).
Every 20 minutes now, I have been feeding a baby bird wet cat food (Fancy Feast). Currently using the beef and chicken flavor (it is what I had).

Pick a day that not only counts, but most people have off anyway, and not just a random weekday, that disrupts everyone's lives, further alienating you from potential allies.

What is impressive is I have figured out how to load an eSIM and make phone calls on my virtual machine, loaded on my workstation, while having my mocked local move as if I were driving the around, from the comfort of my living room.

This screenshot is not on an Android phone.
It is taken on a workstation running a virtual simulation. It is routed through a VPN that passes through a proxy, to simulate coming from my choice of either AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon. I only subscribe to one of those. The ROM believes it is connected to a 5G network the whole time, despite this workstation not having a wireless card.

Pretty much the entire American experience would be a dystopia anywhere else. No universal healthcare, mass shootings as background noise, toddlers dying from unsecured guns, and people going bankrupt because they got sick. A former president led an insurrection - and received felonies for serious crimes and instead of facing justice, he was re-elected. Now he’s pardoning the rioters, calling them “patriots,” and rewriting history in real time.
We have entire states banning history, criminalizing teachers, and letting billionaires rewrite policy. Our cops have military gear, our prisons are privatized, our citizens worship oligarchs, and half the country thinks this is “freedom.”
The real crisis is that half the country doesn’t even know right from wrong or what’s true anymore - they are so hollowed out by propaganda they can’t recognize democracy dying, even as they proudly help kill it. We are collapsing, and they are cheering it on

My take is simplistic - Make Linux easy and accessible for the most people, including those who may be technology challenged, and that includes recommending Linux distributions that make it easy for everyone.
I reject the gatekeeping often found within the Linux ecosystem. Meaning, I reject the belief that because it was once hard for you to learn and use Linux, it should be hard or harder to learn and use for everyone else.
My take is adaption, meaning to encourage more people to use Linux, and at their discretion, learn what they want to learn without pressure or absolute requirement.
In that record, someone like PewDiePie, absolutely, fails.

You are going to be given every excuse not to vote.
You'll be told there is already record turn out. You'll be told, the polls already favor the conservatives, losing. You will be told, that exit polls favor someone else. You may even be told, that it looks like someone else has won, before the election is over.

My mother is a senior who, like most seniors, has a fixed income. She collects social security and EBT (food stamps).
On April 26-27, they are taking the whole EBT System OFFLINE. That has never happened before. They claim it is for "maintenance" and I am worried this is DOGE related.
She can rely on people, if worse comes to worst, but not everyone does. If you know someone who gets EBT / Food Stamps, I recommend they use them before that time.

Europe thrives and prospers because they have democratic socialism. Not pure socialism and not communism either, but rather a system of government and economics that allows for some capitalism and some social values of humanism.
There needs to be a balance, because too much of anything is often a bad thing.

The problem with pure capitalism is that it is normal to let children go hungry, let banks force people out of their homes, let sick people die from a lack of accessible healthcare, and required sensors to work forever until they die.
But the idea of the wealthy billionaires becoming a little less wealthy - Not poor or struggling, just a little less rich, is considered insane.

Both Fosstodon and Mastdon Art, have to be moderated by ex-Reddit mods.
They blacklist so many damn Fedi sites, that they nearly defeat the purpose of the Fediverse.

Fosstodon really pisses me off.
Anytime I try to move to a Fedi site, I have to double-check to see if that site ACTUALLY connect to Fosstodon.
They're nearly as bad a Mastodon Art.

I meant, your alternative to CloudFlare.
(I don't recommend Hetzner. In 2024, they were removing Fedi sites that had any photo or drawing of women kissing, or men kissing.)

I would like to know your solution.
I have been generating a list of service providers outside US-jurisdiction. As you know, the future here (in the United States) is uncertain, and there is nothing wrong with being cautious.
If you have a provider which is not US-based, that would be nice to know.
