signal level authentication is also on the way for Galileo, also as a free service, albeit with some limitations when compared to full signal encryption that is only available to authorised users. in theory, no system can do this. In practice, since GPS is traditionally more available and more reliable than any of the others, many receivers work on a "GPS first" basis. This is particularly true for receivers with a long legacy, where multi constellation capabilities were added on over time. If GPS were to become unreliable or go offline it is likely that a significant install base of existing receivers would not function correctly.

That is certainly true. The hypothetical scenario that @npub1u5e…4glf raised is one where the US intentionally degrades only the GPS signal (which they used to do prior to May 2000) but all other signals remain unaffected.

I think even the simplest consumer equipment nowadays implements some form of RAIM, I'd be surprised if the sudden introducing of SA caused major errors in any multi constellation receiver...although you never can be sure. It would be an interesting experiment to run
