every package manager I've ever used calls a build of a linux kernel an image. Not sure what other concrete noun to use; image seems more accurate than binary

Will this have any meaningful size on the images?

I personally dont understand backing Ukraine for even a second. Ukraine is more important to Russian security than any other major power. Realism says that means Ukraine has to do good diplomacy or be under threat themselves.
They threw out diplomacy by cosying up to NATO

I agree. I thought it was noteworthy when the W3C failed the world that Mozilla was not a strong advocate for a free web at the time
they've been continuing development despite being a walking dead zombie of their past self - but continuing development nonetheless. Its that that will end and that future frightens me.

an Apple owned FOSS project that has non Apple managed forks is about the best possible scenario I can conjure up.
Firefox is an enormous project and needs really active developement to improve security and containerisation while never falling behind in working on sites across the web.
Mozilla is unlikely to be equipped to continue Firefox at the standard we need. It needs a benevolant dictator like a Shuttleworth if not a less free corporate reimagining

2025-02-14 22:47:48 UTC

The end of #firefox / #Mozilla at least as it has looked for 31 years seems to be looming.
The impacts of this on the GNU/Linux operating system are at least spiritually significant
Forgive the naïvety as to how FOSS ownership & development works — but could Apple buy Firefox? They seem to be the org big enough that at least shares some of its values. and safari stinks
But then Apple has a hate—hate relationship with free & open source ; perhaps they can learn that Microsoft has managed to do very well out of its "closer" connection to FOSS

i remember when foss projects stayed out of politics. Labels like "far right" just make them sound like corporate media which cannot be trusted. Just say hateful actors and don't make it political. Foss is for everyone who promotes the cause of liberty — radical right and radical left. Unfollowed.

disclaimer: i dont agree with how andy handled this ; but its just PR - its a nothing burger in terms of operations
I've never quite get the way people let themselves get polarised so much; particularly in a nation where theres clearly no choice that represents the people
I mean here we have the choice of three shit parties and independents that act like and then join shit parties. Everyone I interact with chooses one of those shit parties and I wish they would be removed from the roll; but I dont care if they tell me which shit party.

isnt that more of a public company sort of PR? Twitter was doing poorly when Musk took over; he cut 80% of the workforce without a negative impact on operations and now its doing badly due to political ideology?

I'm not suggesting its not good policy - but it can't be very effective? If Gun access is easy enough I don't think it would make me feel any safer knowing the ex-criminal isn't supposed to have a firearm?

As a Non-American I'm way out of lane here, so I have zero reliability in this particular debate
But don't you either have guns available or you don't (USA upholds the right to have guns)
The point of prison is punishment - not protection. The punishment is a restriction of freedom, which necessarily includes the right to have guns. But if you are not in prison, trying to have guns for some, none for others seems impossible.
Also notably most of these guys commited assault & battery while caught up in a mob mentality - none were sentenced for how they used guns

the question for the guilty shouldnt be what was wrong - its what was worth 4 years.
It does appear that plenty got <12 months time served and that trump mightve been thinking of them when he pardoned the more severe ones.
I agree with the pardons for non-violent offenders of "seditious conspiracy" - whatever that is supposed to mean — but it is a dark hour when violent criminals get released.
I suspect this is trump acting in vendetta for all the ridiculous overplaying of the day that the democrats made over the last four years. And that in itself is worrying

i had a quick look and theres about three that if allegations and appeals are correct should remain behind bars:
peter francis
thomas webster
David Nicholas Dempsey
Life sentences are reserved for crimes that ruin lives, ie. multiple manslaughter, Dempsey appears to be the only one thats anywhere near, but it depends on the injuries afflicted
