Oh goodness - it's happening! Will be in #Spain - with a few days to myself after a conference. Going to extricate myself from the conference city and Barcelona, crowds. I'll likely take the train to San Sebastian and then make my way back [train and bus] via Zaragoza where I do have to be for at least a day.
What are good sites for trains and buses? renfre? thetrainline.com ? omio.com ? buses?

@nprofile…ryua yeah I figured the northern states are all out of bounds. Back in the 80s (and my limited kid knowledge) it was Warri and Port Harcourt and Rivers state that were problematic

@nprofile…ryua ah that's sad. Jos is Plateau state right ? (Yes, looked it up). I remember as a kid ( < 10 ) we drove to Jos (from Kaduna). I remember it being so beautiful and picturesque (compared to dusty Kaduna), would have loved to go back.

Rice with tamarind soured & spicy vathakuzambu* and sides: crisp fried vattal (dried rice batter crackers), sauteed eggplant, spiced fried up potatoes, spiced drumstick/moringa, and paruppu-usili (toor dal here) with asparagus (rather than typical green beans).
*Or vatha kulambu - the 'z' is pronounced like an 'L' but with tongue starting much further behind at the top of the palate' a bit of an 'r' in the sound

(Store bought) Paratha with Bengali style simple masoor daal (bay leaf, dry red chile, nigella in hot oil seasoned + touch of turmeric after boiling the daal), Bengali style panch phoron sauteed/cooked begoon alu (🍆 & 🥔), southern indian ish sauteed shredded cabbage with mustard seeds, curry leaves and green chilli, and partners most delectable dry, slow cooked and fried up multi masala lamb

Morning worked in my hotel, made a trip to meet collaborators briefly, had lunch with them at the cafeteria. One showed me a pic of Jonangu taken yesterday, & on my 18 min train ride back to Sannomiya - looked up Jonangu location (it was in my bookmarks) & saw that it is 90 mins away with a rapid express from Sannomiya. Sped to hotel, dropped computer off, picked up camera and made it to the 2:07. Was at Jonangu at 3:40. Spent an excellent 45mins there! #Kyoto #Japan #Bloomscrolling #DasJP26

A new day, a new um overcast grey day. But that's ok, managed to go back to sleep after 3:30 wakening. Hotel has an onsen, so off to that then breakfast. Remembered yukata goes on left over right; kid2 passed on a comment to "Please tie the obi around hips not waist"
#Breakfast is decent spread - I didn't put things on my rice directly and skipped the western stuff - pasta and bread and sweets (could have used the sausages) and also the masala curry (to be had with rice)

Friday homework
Taste testing the cocoa nib infused mezcal in #negroni (side by side with non infused control)
Flavor is excellent, chocolatey - I'm undecided whether to filter the #mezcal further through filter paper (not just the cheesecloth multi layers) to get it clearer.

I don't remember ever using them as a kid - but took them off my mom years ago when she was around on a trip to Kolkata. Likely my parents got them early 70s - probably in Dar es Salaam

Funnily enough there was a Coco curry house 30 steps away from our apartment in kobe in 2023, passed by it everyday, never tried... What should I order?
They have their place but I'm not too fond of Japanese curries (they tend to be sweet)
