@nprofile…lsku That's new and separate. That's Youtube being stupid and them deciding first-class support should depend on a JS runtime (I refused to provide one).
But they also support other sides, some of which also have paid features that are bypassable. But they refuse such contributions.
They do however support plugin extractors, which one can make to support those sites better, and specify which extractor to use at runtime or in configuration.
So mostly I'm hoping someone is aware of one such plugin for gallery-dl.

"Right to Reputation" is such a stupid legal concept.
A reputation is supposed to be something you deserve. If you did the thing and it harms your reputation when people talk about it, you have no one but yourself to blame.
It is completely nonsensical to have a right to a good reputation that is undeserved.
"It has to be of legitimate public interest", oh my goodness, what a "beautiful" victim-blaming tool for silencing any & all discrimination the judge sympathizes with. Of course it's "not of public interest" that John McDude is a rapist and publicizing that fact is harmful to his reputation. Yeah, given how relevant things like mass civil disobedience and jury nullification have been in various civil rights movements, I don't think relying on the judge having good judgement is a sane position to take.
As for people spreading falsehoods that harm? Defamation and harassment already exist to cover that, there is zero need for unjustified and unjustifiable reputation bullshit.

@nprofile…lsku Eh, the microkernel part exists and Ada is (supposedly) getting a bootstrap compiler finally (nlnet project).
The problem is primarily hardware support. Which *can* be mitigated by rump kernel approaches among others (though that may instead lead to higher requirements than first-class support).

@nprofile…lsku Indeed, but that's a minor issue as Language-Based Security and Capabilities alike can achieve adequate isolation in a monolithic system.
Simply provide no unstructured direct access to memory to the language and system interfaces. Then everything has to operate with references as de-facto capabilities.
Same or greater performance can be achieved as a lot of the indirections necessary in weaker languages are obsoleted by this.
Microkernels are way to achieve that proper despite C's limitations.

The bug’s existence undermines typical ‘secure by default’ postures and isolation principles. Kernel-level vulnerabilities like this bypass many layered perimeter defenses and assume a total breakdown of system integrity.
wtf no. It simply highlights that Linux/UNIX's security model is a disaster from the very beginning, and that the choice of C and accepting its weak typing model instead of emulating something better (or using tools that permit much the same without a runtime cost) was an awful decision.
(The entire bug could've been avoided with Ada typing & contract features, probably detected purely at compile time.)
You can't say "secure by default" and "isolation" are undermined while talking about a kernel that is rife with ambient authority and where any kernel thread is free to fuck everything else in the system over at any given moment.
(Sure there's a privileged core/runtime necessary at some point, but there's zero reason kernel threads should have access to everything else and merely politely pretend they don't.)
That code should never even have been part of a privileged surface in the first place, ti should've been passed capabilities for what it needs and otherwise operated without any privileges.

It's funny how people view those plant overgrown cities as a desirable thing in all ways.

(Vacuum + putting the container in the freezer immediately after just doesn't seem very practical.)

However, Linux users report excellent experiences with gio-based WebDAV access in file managers like Nautilus and Thunar.
So long as your glib-based server (oh nyo~) doesn't have issues with text outside of a limited subset of ascii.
It feels very weird to see it have no issues with kanji or cyrillic but to see it fall flat on #.

Similar to the one you get with Doom Eternal or ULTRAKILL.
It does require the game to make failing/dying not a punishing experience, unlike roguelikes, otherwise it rapidly becomes less fun.

@nprofile…wjlp Mostly you go to businesses that make custom e-bikes and you simply specify the kind of cells you want used in the battery they'll assemble for it.
(Of course this means you need one of the businesses that also does custom batteries.)
A lot of the off-the-shelf bikes assume a specific form-factor & connector shenanigans that can be a problem.
A lot don't, but given the weather here I'd need something that can has decent ingress protection, which means a plain container battery & connectors bolted onto the frame isn't an option, more care than just that is required.
(Obviously I'd store it inside, the bike and the battery, but it still needs to be able to cope with water & snow.)

I looked into it. Yes I'd probably pay double the battery price, but not dying in a fire and the batteries lasting a decade sounds worth it.
I have absolutely no idea why most people insist on lithium-ion for bikes.

Honestly after my backpack, groceries and whatnot, a kilogram more or less doesn't make a difference.

Regarding electric kettles? Ignore them, they're garbage that will fail within a few years at most.
Get yourself a stovetop kettle. You can use them with a resistive heat plate/stove, camping fire-based equipment or these days even with induction equipment (adapters also exist if you already have such a kettle that isn't compatible).
That way you get something that will last considerably longer, is sometimes repairable, costs about the same and that you can still use during power outages.

One of the downsides of automatic coffee makers is that by virtue of how they work they pretty much guarantee slightly-burnt coffee by using water that's too hot and then having a keep-warm hot plate that further cooks it while the rest is still brewing.
On the upside they're automatic and usually not high maintenance if don't have hard water (some of them have very inconvenient shapes that makes washing them a nightmare though).
French presses on the upside allow you to use water at a proper 80~90℃ that won't burn coffee and makes the most out of even cheapass defreshened coffee.
The downside is that you *have* to clean them for basically every use and doing so in an adequately hygienic way requires taking them apart entirely. With a dishwasher that's not a problem, without it's really obnoxious.
Another upside though is that they outlive automatic makers considerably in my experience (that's why I switched, I was annoyed with their stupid ≤3 year lifespan) and replacing parts that fail is actually possible without having to mess with glue solvants and all sorts of nonsense as one would need to repair an automatic maker (which probably doesn't sell spare parts anyway so good luck if anything cracked or ruptured in the fluid-containing parts).

Besides at -25℃ that starts to feel a tad chilly.
There are cabin motorcycles but those seem oddly unpopular.
Most importantly though, all those vehicles should have trailer attachment points.
One might not need internal carry space for 95% of the time, but when the groceries happen one does. A small box trailer addresses that need.

@nprofile…9xu8 @nprofile…7l9w The solution is key-addressed overlay networks. IPv4 & IPv6 are a routing layer, not an a transport layer you can reasonably use directly.
In comparison, IPv4 address is either CGNAT or pooled.
My "dynamic" IPv4 did not change for the entirety of my contract with my last two ISPs. (It changed on contract and remained stable the entire time. Through hours long/half-day power outages, even.)
So that's also not meaningfully useful for privacy.

Hmmm... the main way I could be happy with those retrocomputer projects would require just mostly foregoing the notion of working in RAM and largely just going full-persistent, with RAM being the minimal working-memory.
Without fast persistent storage that would be pretty slow. On the other hand, it would make power fluctuations and such barely do anything as almost no state would ever truly be volatile.

Hmm... is there good electronics/circuit simulation Free Software, such that one could design and test a circuit in its entirety without having to spend absurd sums learning it with physical hardware & parts? And the same on prototyping?

I wonder why nothing like gtk-server exists for Qt.
It seems to expect Qt to be driving the program, rather than the program to be using Qt.
An inversion of control that requires a whole lot more Qt-specific code getting written to talk to a daemon.

As for detecting evil use? Detecting user intent requires (psychic) technologies we do not currently have.

@nprofile…4xv8 For the superintelligence type, while technically possible (within a few constraints physics imposes), I think its creation by something less intelligent is very unlikely.
I also think that even if it did happen, there's no particular reason it would necessarily want to have anything to do with its creators.
As for conventional intelligence, I do not think there are any magic meat shenanigans that should make it impossible for it to be instantiated in a different medium.
