From a side, I feel *BSD is a lot cleaner in a lot of things, and the Port system is, for what I tested it, a lot flexible and organized than the distro repository/flatpak/snap trio on Linux.
They stick a lot on the proper Unix than going creative.
But the license, (extremely permissive), I feel it ended doing more harm than good for it in long run.
GPL, despite being "viral", in this regard is what helped linux to force contributions open from those who wanted use it.

In this area, stuff from Gog.com is easier to handle. You download an installer with the native linux version, without overlays like Steam.
And Linux stuff just run inside a container in the freebsd system itself.
A pity Valve doesn't have interest to put the client less reliant on Linux-only system, otherwise would be quite the definitive gaming platform that runs on every kind on unix-like...

Last time I checked for running Steam on FreeBSD, honestly, the procedure felt more "hack and patch" that I don't feel is something one would do for a production or regular use machine, except it is the only machine and you run FreeBSD as your main os regularly.
As performance, you haven't to expect much different than linux, most stuff is the same (X/Wayland).
I didn't found if today the situation is improved, or the procedure still messy.

Tuttavia hanno fatto un errore di calcolo: non è Iraq o Libia. l'Iran è un paese compatto socialmente e militarmente, nel conflitto di pochi mesi fa hanno dimostrato la fragilità delle difese missilistiche contro i loro razzi. La geografia è peggiore di quella dell'afganistan per una invasione di terra.
Avranno solo come risultato di mandare i crisi gli stati arabi e toglierà quel contrappeso che marginava l'influenza dell'Iran sulla regione.
Ma oramai la frittata è fatta.

La destabilizzazione del medio oriente in realtà favorisce gli Stati Uniti non tanto indirettamente: con il petrolio e gas russo bloccati, i paesi arabi instabili con le forniture, dove vanno a comprarli l'Europa e altri alleati? Ancora più col prezzo aumentato per le tensioni.

Gli obiettivi sono abbastanza semplici.
Dato che gli stati uniti sono al punto della bancarotta, nei prossimi anni non potranno più seriamente impegnarsi in nessun scenario estero come ora.
Perciò sta aiutando Israele ad espandersi il più possibile e a collassare tutti tutte le potenze della regione (inclusi gli "alleati" arabi senza distinzione) prima di doversi ritirare e lasciare Israele a gestire la regione in gran parte da solo.

Still thinking that the first Unreal/Unreal tournement are more impressive than later things. They really pushed the "open enviroment" to massive scale with that engine, that it still scream it on your screen even today.

I'm feeling is an effort to artificially inflate a demand that doesn't exists, in a way that big investor firms (the usual suspects like Blackrock/Vanguard probably) put money in their project, even if there is no meaningful demand for that service.
I toyed a bit with AI, I think there are some small niche where they can help, like as search engine, as such they can find out something pretty well; but I don't really see the point to waste so much money into LLMs.

almeno, credo che uno sviluppo della contesa sulla Groenlandia sia la scintilla seria del progetto dell'esercito comune Europeo che Macron millanta da anni. Macron è Macron e nessuno lo ha mai preso sul serio fuori dalla Francia, ma implicitamente sarebbe anche una vittoria per chi come lui spingeva seriamente alla formazione di questo e al rafforzamento della struttura dell'EU.
Indirettamente, sia gli Stati Uniti e sia l'Europa ci guadagnano da questa storia.

Trump è un fanfarone inconcludente che vende anche la cacca come oro, da tycoon americano che è, ma diversamente da quello che commentano altri, c'è una logica dietro a quello che fa. Se non si impergola direttamente in conflitti, come con l'Iran, o manda scossoni allo status quo con l'EU, è perché i conti nazionali stanno facendo la politica dietro i teatrini.
Siamo piu in Europa che, forse perché fa comodo, releghiamo tutto a follia senza rifletterci cosa c'è dietro.

Non è solo una fanfaronata di Trump. Gli Stati Uniti si sobbarcano di oltre la metà della forza effettiva Nato, con i paesi europei che sono di sotto al contributo previsto. Col debito pubblico che è già da bancarotta implicita, ma non dichiarata perché sono sempre gli US, volenti o nolenti quello di accollarsi il peso della difesa di altri posti al di fuori dei confini è qualcosa che devono tagliare per forza.

Con la Cina che ha praticamente il monopolio globale sulle terre rare, che non è solo l'estrazione, la raffinazione ma anche riutilizzare gli "scarti" (si chiamano rare per un motivo...), tutto questo volersi arrappare un pezzo di terra a scapito di tutto quanto mi sembra un arrivare davvero troppo tardi e senza averne i mezzi... per sfruttare quel materiale e renderlo economico, occorre una infrastruttura che in Occidente abbiamo delocalizzato.

A parte l'ironia, il problema di fondo dell'industria moderna è proprio il "collo di bottiglia" fatto dalla distribuzione di alcune risorse o della produzione che hanno solo una o due fonti a livello globale.
Da qui la radice dei conflitti globali odierni che fanno da sfondo alla guerra in Ucraina (perché si, nell'est ci sono molti depositi) e le ambizioni trumpesche sulla groenlandia che rischiano di demolire la Nato.

Hanno già incominciato a ignorare ogni decenza anche prima di Trump. La sola cosa che lo distingue è che le spara più grosse degli altri.
Per adesso, onestamente, credo che sia tutto da vedere se le cose vadano come pensano, o se abbiano solo stappato un altro vespaio che non sapranno come gestire, come sempre.

Allora, parliamo di nicchie d'uso diverse.
Utente desktop comune: Linux Mint, Manjaro o altre strettamente da desktop, sono distro fortemente automatizzate che a mio giudizio fai molto meno che su Windows sugli aspetti tecnici. Mint e Manjaro, ad esempio, hanno il front-end per il gestore di pacchetti che supporta anche Snap e Flatpack tutto in uno, che fa sembrare tutta la gestione software uniforme.

Negli ambienti professionali, quello che cercano è il supporto tecnico, cioè una azienda che si prende carico dei tuoi problemi senza che tu debba darlo in mano a uno specialista dentro. Red Hat ci ha fatto attorno il suo business, con la versione in licenza di Linux che ha sopra anche l'assistenza. PA, aziende, hanno bisogno prima di tutto quello.

there is also Searx, but is something different from usual. Is more a middle-man software that connects to other engines in your place. The big issue I found is find a working server, but when works it can catch some results that other engines don't give.

Amiga deve essere in mano a una compagnia Americana che, almeno, fino a qualche tempo fa produceva, e oggi da, in licenza il nome per delle piattaforme basate su PowerPC compatibili con Amiga a 68k ed acceleratori. AmigaOS è ancora mantenuto, ma da un'altra azienda, la Hyperion, anche se onestamente il tutto non mi sembra più attivissimo (per ovvie ragioni...) anche se sono ancora "vivi".

Per quello che ricordo, il marchio Commodore è balzato in mano ad un po' di aziende nel corso degli anni (la prima, Escom che ci fece PC), ma in effetti dovrebbe essere poi "atterrato" in mano agli Olandesi. Quello che non è chiaro è se la azienda Italiana abbia acquistato la licenza sul marchio (che si può fare) o se sia stata una cessazione completa, come invece si suppone abbiano fatto agli Americani.
