I've been dealing with this for 30 years now.
About once every month or so, my mood goes down, and it lasts two-three weeks: I feel zero motivation, all my thoughts turn negative, nothing seems to be worth doing.
I manage it decently, but it's crippling, I feel like I'm living only a fraction of my life.
I tried the most disparate therapies, meds, life style changes... Very little changes.

I'll just add this here: any discussion about "human nature" or whatever MUST deal with the fact that egalitarian societies, or societies where people live "as political equals" exist and have existed in the most disparate environments.

This kind of arguments are a lot of fun to make, because they highlight how disconnected from reality bigots are.
But also, the arguments assume that bigots *care* about reality, that they think like you and me, and so they're just "stupid" or ignorant.
This is dangerous, because it leads us to misunderstand the opponent.
They don't care.
They don't care about the arguments they make, they don't care that they're wrong, they don't care about finding out what the truth is.
They care about their ego.
They will happily hang on anything, no matter how flimsy, that allows them to feel better about themselves relative to someone they can "other".
Doesn't matter how much their leaders lie to them, how much their lives are made miserable.
As long as they are given a rationalization to feel superior in some way to someone else, to feel like they're not the bottom of the barrel, they will buy it.

I am a cynic only if you think that begging the powerful to pretty please listen to us is our sole option.
The point I would like to make is that, instead of relying on the powerful, we should look at our peers, organize with them, and find our power in numbers. =)
Local communities, mutual aid networks and especially worker unions.

But that's only how it is sold to us.
In practice, laws and rules apply only to the ruled, not to the rulers.
Between media, propaganda, daily life struggle and the fundamental problem that most people view voting as the only lever they have against elected officials, keeping pressure is not as viable as it should be.

Genuine question: how does an entire nation, a whole culture, recover from this level of hatred?
Nazi Germany lost a war, with all the humiliation that comes with it: the soul-searching was more or less imposed from the outside.
This doesn't seem to be on the table for Israel.
But in this case... What will happen?
That level of hatred is poised to bleed inwards: you can't dehumanize a group of humans without accepting that humans can be dehumanized, you can't narrow your in-group without accepting that it can be narrowed further.
This is fucking scary.

I see a lot of Europeans pointing out about how bad the situation is in the US as if everything here in the EU is fine.
IT IS NOT.
We are enthusiastically moving in the very same direction, and if anything we should look at the US as a warning of what the situation could be here in five years or so.
Europe, not unlike the US, is guilty of A LOT of violence abroad, even if we pretend that it isn't, that we're good and "civilized".
More and more, that violence is turning inwards.
We should be worried.
