AI-generated pictures (specifically the ones that mimic artistic styles) demonstrate zero potential of diversifying in style or substance. they've already hit a rut quite a while ago. i think they've reached the limit of what they're going to look like. so that's it: the sum result of this tech is it provides maybe a dozen or so preset styles of image, effectively a novelty image filter. equivalent maybe to the option list provided by a free app, or picking from that word art menu in powerpoint.

i think one of my aunts has a damaged leg from childhood polio? like maybe it used to be better understood that a viral illness could mess you up for life? covid is still commonly thought of as something you catch for a week or so (like a cold) and then you're back to normal? perhaps because people generally don't conceive that a virus could be both widespread and also deadly/disabling?

Thinking about early in the pandemic when the UK already had a disproportionately massive death toll (but wasn't really acknowledging so) and a UK artist was tweeting about how they'd virtually appeared at an event in Australia. The Australian hosts started off by offering their sincere condolences and best wishes to the UK artist for the catastrophic tragedy happening in the UK. That kind of acknowledgement just isn't happening within the UK public consciousness.
