Thatʼs the thing: the unexpected legit enquiry, including clients. I have a lot of filters for regular spam keywords (compiled since the 1990s since I have not changed my email client, other than upgrading the version). But every few months Iʼll post this sentiment—that I really want to block all Gmail addresses! Why anyone wants to have an email domain that is a notorious spam shop, I really donʼt know.

The #Gmail saga. One of the people who could access the Gmail address I had (which #Google claims is impossible) managed to sign up to Instagram, confirm her account, use her account, then changed her email address for her account in 2024. I've just written to her to see what she signed up to Gmail as. I have a feeling I'll shortly have confirmation that Google has lied for over 20 years about how "the dots don't matter" with Gmail accounts.

Helped a lady with a flat tyre yesterday. Got the car jacked up, took the nuts off the wheel, and it was locked solid. Wouldnʼt come off, rotate, nothing. Was I missing something? It was an Indian car, Ford EcoSport Mk II. She had already rung the roadside assist through her bank (!), but they were 35 minutes away and I thought I could have her up and running before that. No joy. Once her friend arrived to keep her company I left, and by then the assist person was probably 15 minutes away.

Thank you! As a publisher, we donʼt track, but we did have some ads from networks that tracked. I made a commitment to our readers (not that any asked for this) that we would be tracker-free this year. I wrote to the ad networks to see if any would go along with this and got zero replies. So we removed all their ads. Now we just have ones we run ourselves with no trackers. Didnʼt seem particularly hard to do and I wish more would.

Weʼve kept things as they were in the 1990s, just improved on them. Got rid of tracking ads earlier this year (which no one in the media seems to think was newsworthy), and no paywalls. We do charge for stuff but thatʼs stuff weʼve always charged for, and itʼs not our web content. So hopefully there is a word!

I could find splogs on Google News at least a decade ago. I think they stopped doing manual checks in the 2000s and allowed junk in. I tried looking for my screenshots just now to back this up, but couldnʼt locate them.
Those “AI” idiots only know fake. I discovered that last year when those disinformation articles went up about me.

Thank you for doing your amazing work. I know it is difficult. I helped raise funds for one friend in Rafah, and while most people were pretty good, there was, of course, one guy (a dude from Israel) questioning whether my friend was real, and even if he was, the routes out of Rafah were blocked. He went to my friend’s website, posted a photo of him, trying to make the effort questionable. This dude failed, we raised the money, and my friend and his family are in Cairo.

Ew. Élite was run by known pædophiles. Founder John Casablancas was molesting Stephanie Seymour (he was in his 40s, she was 14). Gérald Marie was into teens, and there were plenty of credible rape allegations, including one from a woman when she was 15. Do you think itʼs the need for content warnings, so people donʼt bother in case they get reported? This place was so much more a free-for-all when I joined in 2017, but when the Twitter people came, many brought this holier-than-thou attitude of what could and could not be said. So everyone started policing themselves. What seemed to get a pass was the pro-fediverse content.
Maybe itʼs my rose-coloured glasses, but it was way more tolerant before.

Not a linguist but I noticed the ones that sound OK without 'person' end in -an and the ones that sound wrong end in -ese. My guess is the -ese turns things into adjectives, so you need a noun to go with it. So for any word that is an adjective (Chinese, Japanese, Burmese, French, Spanish) you need 'person' and for any term that is a noun (Norwegian, Australian, Brazilian) you don't.

Itʼs astonishing how much they block. When I first started there, it was fine. Then I found our work account was nuked. They restored it in a short space of time, but the 200 followers were toast (so much for data portability), so I couldnʼt take them with me. I put the work account on fashionsocial.host, which has been fine, but recently I found that blocked by mastodon.art as well!
There is nothing controversial on fashionsocial.host and a small group of active members.
