It reads as if currently operational NIH clinical trials may have been halted. If this is the case, I wonder if people can sue. #NarrativeMedicine is a discipline that makes the case for the importance of empathy, time listening, & "close reading" as doctors engage with patients. Their stories are as significant as bloodwork, PET images, & CATscans. What we are now seeing is a different kind of storytelling -- stories about money and care denial and suffering that creates and exacerbates illness. It makes me wonder if narrative medicine is even possible.

I am very, very sorry to hear this. it sounds & is brutal. Also, if I may, your students -- suffering themselves (I know how exhausting it can be helping them get over the finish line; the health issues, physical & mental, are profound & ubiquitous), might let you share & even appreciate a teensy bit of what you're experiencing. It's tricky to do & maybe you don't want to but it might provide you (& them) some relief.

I know this is a small thing but was anyone else grossed out by #Vance constantly responding to questions and comments by calling out "Norah," "Tim," and "Margaret"?
