PSA: If you have a system with Windows 95/98 and it has the Windows Update folder (C:\Program Files or A:\Program Files on the PC-98), ESPECIALLY if it is not in the English language, please back these up as the Windows Update Restored project is seeking these (share them to MSFN or the DIscord)
This PC-98 I got from YAJ had catalog files for IE5.5 + Windows 95 for WU V3 that are going to be added soon to allow updates to work again.

It's efficient in terms of pencil pushers.
Sure, you're driving a ton there and back. Sure you're driving possibly hours each day, depending on the kind of low-wage job you got. But thanks to labor rules, they have to pay overtime after 40 hours, healthcare after 29 hours, and whatnot.
So you have less pay, a demoralized workforce, healthcare you're having to get from the ACA market or some shit instead of being able to "take some out of your paycheck" (still above "lol good luck finding a doctor" with medicaid), and more turnover relying on whatever wagie will fall for this job next because the job market is full of HR people rejecting your resume.
But their bottom line is, "do we need to pay benefits" and "how can we avoid paying employees as much as possible".

The big problem with BlueSky is simple. It is not truly decentralized (as the outage showed), it's already suffering the same echo chamber problems Twitter did pre-Elon, they're banning artists because one of the neopuritans on the site was made to feel some type of way, you're always walking on eggshells, and it's all being hyped up as the next big thing.
Turns out, Twitter users are going to experience the Zippcast hype all over again, or all the other YouTube competitors that died in a fire.

Not only that but saying anything is "freedom of speech" always attracts the worst posters especially post 2016, along with grifters.
Aside from the fact that calling your site free speech is not only oversaturated, but never means shit because it exists to be tested. There were tons of "grifty" sites and companies where "freedom of speech" meant "right wing only" or "left wing only" (pre-2016).
freespeech.org is a great example. It's all left-wing because the left wing had their own censorship issue but different; it was impossible for a left wing radio host to get wide carriage due to Clear Channel and a few large companies owning most of the airwaves, and furthermore projects like Current TV or Air America went down in flames.
One of the talk show hosts there lamented this during her temporary retirement: she was complaining how in the Obama era there would be like several stations carrying the Sean Hannities and Rush Limbaughs of the talk radio sphere in a hard blue city that consistently voted for Obama and Gavin Newsom and the like. But meanwhile her station was being bought out to share more of the right wing version of her show instead.
To add to that, the people who want left wing radio will listen to the NPRs and MSNBCs of the world, which are universally carried unlike Thom Hartmann.
But you'll never see a right wing host on something like freespeech.org and that's the point. While something like Odysee might be free speech, uploading left wing content to Bitchute would be a real test in "how much is this free speech site, actually free speech". Because at that point it's as open as a Discord server is.
Or in this case, fedi instances that advertise it and ban you for not having a specific viewpoint, and there are many examples of "free speech" instances that are literally just online right instances that post about the same political shit day in, day out.

That's really the biggest problem with Nostr, the userbase isn't very high quality in many regards. It's very much tainted in a different way.

Yeah, Nostr is somewhat interesting because it's trying to be kind of like Twister was back in the day, or Odysee/LBRY more recently: fully decentralized to some degree. It's much more open than BSky is.
However, there's just two problems: not many people use it and those who do are either cryptobros shilling their stuff, or are "on the registry".

I should add; Jack Dorsey is no longer on bsky or a part of it. He's all in on Nostr, which isn't even relevant and rightfully so.

if you want to see something insane, Jack Dorsey did an interview about Nostr a while back.
In it, he completely glosses over his internet past and what he did as the leader of the biggest social media site online, and his censorship behavior. Even when he admits aspects of his past were wrong, he has a cope or excuse for every single one of them. In another life, he would be part of the PR firm BP hired after the Deepwater Horizon disaster.

serious question guys: how do you get Linux to hibernate after x minutes in standby?
I keep having the issue where Linux standby just drains the battery and shuts down.
