i'll admit i haven't tried it in the last 10 years but i'm pretty sure pushing a single quad to the gpu at a time runs way worse than blitting a single sprite on the cpu at a time on a single core because the last time i tried that naive approach that was the outcome
and yes of course the gpu is way more efficient with even a little bit of data organization but if your frame is taking a fraction of a millisecond to draw who gives a shit?

like, batching is the devil. you know what doesn't have to batch? the CPU. you tell it to do thing, and shockingly it just immediately does thing
also, wanna do a readback of your framebuffer? no problem! it's just memory! reading it is as cheap as writing it! no synchronization required, no gpu stalls involved

for You Have Died i'm just using software blitting between a front and back buffer held in CPU memory. and it really drives home how doing graphics on the CPU is easily an order of magnitude less complex than having to go through a GPU to do it
just jiggle the bytes around a bit and there's your result!
to be honest i'm starting to think using the GPU for simple low res 2D indie games is a mistake

snprintf can safely format a string into a target buffer
it can also, without writing anything, tell you the size needed to safely format a string into a target buffer
however, this being C, there is (as far as i can find) no helper method to use snprintf to find the size of the buffer you need, allocate it, and then write the formatted string, unless you make it yourself
this is great since writing a wrapper function like this is extremely easy to fuck up, leading to buffer overruns

I have completed the triangle rasterizer fixed point conversion
The benchmarks have all improved between 0 and 35%
Except for threaded random triangles with flat color. That metric has increased 106%. As in its twice as fast as before
I have no idea why but I'm fairly sure I've ruled out bugs in my benchmarking
I am very confused

- let you post images or other files (DCC send doesn't count even if you somehow get it to work)
- show link previews
- do voice chat
- do screen sharing
- have offline messaging capability

i'm making a #QBasic game using mode 13h, 320x200 8bpp. i'm using the line doubling feature of the VGA card to make it 320x100 then manually doubling each pixel horizontally for 160x100
i realized i could use a palette with 3 bits red/green and 2 blue, and then do "subpixel" dither to generate the in between colors. i made a converter to test if that would look good, and it does
