Yeah. If people want to ban flock cameras, GO AFTER FLOCK. It's your own damn local governments and police who are signing contracts with those assholes.

2026-09-14 15:20:36 UTC

- reply

True, but the particular focus on data centers is a phenomenon that literally didn't exist two years ago. We built data centers in the USA literally before any other country on Earth, after all.
Flock can just as easily run their operation from overseas data centers, so I consider that to be a red herring.

2026-09-14 15:14:10 UTC

- reply

Electricity? Yes. Water? No.
All industry uses electricity, so that's not a reason to ban them. As for water, I'd support mandating closed-loop systems in all new builds if it would shut the NIMBYs up. It won't, of course, because they just want a ban.

2026-09-14 15:02:38 UTC

If you want to debate data centers with me you probably should show some evidence that you gave the slightest fuck about the issue back when Joe Biden was President and before the CCP propaganda offensive began. Thanks.

I agree with that statement. Even Israel is losing. Among all the losers, Iran is losing the least, which, by default, makes them the winner. So that's why I voted Iran.

I think your mitigation #1 directly addressed my concern about centralization and in fact would encourage seeking out new nodes rather than deciding "I trust node x and I'm not even talking to anyone else". Food for thought. Thanks, again.

2026-07-23 21:17:07 UTC

- reply

#1 actually sounds like it would be pretty solid. Thanks for your thoughts!

2026-07-23 20:14:34 UTC

- reply

Please excuse the slop, but have you considered potential mitigations for this issue? I thought maybe adding an additional trust layer for "really trusted node", but I suspect that would lead to the same roundabout centralization issue nostr and bluesky have where it becomes more of a defacto centralized service where everyone considers the same node or cluster of nodes to be "authoritative".
Still, a very intriguing idea. More federation interop would be great! I've just recently started dabbling in this sort of network software so please forgive me if my question makes no sense or is stupid!
EDIT: The side project I'm toying with uses non-ICANN destinations/identifiers for nodes

Like with most gold rushes, the ones who will make the most profit in the end will be the ones selling pickaxes. I suspect China (and maybe Nvidia) will be the big winners once the dust settles, because companies are paying real money for chips and the infrastructure to run the chips.

Nuclear weapons are what separates real countries from fake counties. Every nation on Earth chooses now to either be independent and free by going nuclear or become a slave/vassal by following the bullshit rules set by nuclear powers.
