Way up the mountain we live against, this lonely fire hydrant was installed when the developer thought they would be building right up to the top.
Happily, this large parcel of land is now owned by the Southern Highlands Appalachian Conservancy, and won't be built upon.

The Man began painting decorative quilt squares to hang (one at a time) on our porch. He developed quite a library, and they hung on the side of our basement stairs for a couple of years, before we decided to finish the basement. Then it became a storage issue.
We designed this cool box to store 10 of them flat, which works pretty well, but doesn't house all of them. Some hung on a still-unfinished section of the basement stairs. Still not enough.
So we attached a couple of fence slats to the cinderblocks, and now he even has room for a couple new ones. I'm looking forward to new designs.

That's amazing!
I now have 3 squirrels who get out to the peanuts before the crows, and then charge the birds to try to keep them away. I can't scare the squirrels away, without doing the same to the crows.
I'll give this a try. I don't want the crows to think I'm trying to poison them... 😀

The new US #drought map is out, and it's really hard to believe how good most of TX and CA look, in addition to a huge band through much of the middle of the country, and up into New England, at least away from the coast.
The SW and so much of the rest of the west (and PNW) is seeing so very much long-term drought.

After I mowed the small amount of grass left in the backyard this week, part of the area had moved into the sunshine.
There were several of these swarms of small insects (not mosquitoes, not what I call gnats, as they didn't bite, and ignored me completely.) They like the sun.
I thought this looked like a portal to a different reality, and thought about checking it out...

There is no way that in 2026 we should be having TB anywhere in this country, and certainly not amongst a population that is completely at the mercy of a corporation which is using them for profit.
Hoping aggressive investigation of this will continue both in Colorado and everywhere else these concentration camps are being built.

On our walk through Flat Rock Park yesterday, we passed a quite-large tree completely covered in lilac-like blooms. I had never before noticed this plant. It was a good 3-4m tall, and as wide. What a show-stopper.
Had to look it up, it's a Chaste Tree, and tends to be sub-tropical, but apparently enjoying Western North Carolina.

It's funny when I've cleaned the whole house, and then spent another 4 hours in the yard, moving rocks, rehanging bird houses, replacing decorative art poles, and then watering all the new plants, to then have this stupid Apple Watch tell me that I haven't had any activities today, and I'm going to lose my active streak.
If I had the energy, I'd tell it where to go. But it's strapped to my wrist, and I'm barely moving.

I'm a complete fail at the #daylily ju jour on my first day at my great new instance, because apparently with the removal of much of Mount Mulch yesterday the local deer have found that flowerbed.
Five plants just ready to open have had the buds stripped and I'm not angry at all, nope, not at all. It's not like they didn't do this last year, too All those anti-deer products did not help.
Will deadhead them (heh heh, no I meant the plants), and see if I can get a second round to the point of color.
