Yes, the UK is institutionally transphobic. But most UK people are not.
The people I see at work, in the shops, in cafes, on public transport, generally just leave me alone or are politely professional. Sometimes they'll misgender me but almost always apologise. More ppl are supportive than not.
The most fear mongering about trans people I see comes from two sources - the rightwing media and...other trans ppl and "allies" who turn every conversation into an infodump about the latest awful thing JKR said. Or trans accounts online who just post about transphobia 24/7 and tell us UK folks to flee the country (like it's that easy to uproot your entire life).
And I know I live in a liberal bubble part of the country. I'm aware of that and grateful for it. But honestly, day to day, I'm mostly just getting on with my boring life. Most people don't care that I'm trans - and I'm very visibly "non passing".
Despite the headlines and doomposters, trans ppl in the UK are not going anywhere. There is good here and it's worth fighting for.
I'll leave if and when I have to but I'm going to fight every step of the way. This is my home too.

New instance, new #Introduction post!
Here we go again...
I'm River, and I've booped around a few places here on the fediverse, currently hanging out with my friends @npub1f7r…cfnk :diotima: and @npub1j8q…cazz :vul: to chat about stuff and things.
I've been gaming since the heady days of OG #BaldursGate, and am currently obsessed with #BaldursGate3 and #DragonAge #TheVeilguard.
When I'm not gaming, I'm an academic #librarian, a practicing #witch and #Selunite, an occasional #writer and #poet and a general all-round nerdy type.
I'm also queer and trans, so I will post about #LGBTQ stuff, but I will content warn anything political.
