I've been working in the software industry for 20 years. During my entire career, there has been a constant push to recognize that the ultimate engineering skill is to write the less code the better. As an engineer becomes more senior, she is expected to start deleting more code than they write on daily bases, etc.

So, more insights into Mozilla leadership. If you go https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/leadership/ and look at Mozilla Corporation, they list 24 people between the executives and the "senior leadership" team. From those, 7 of them came from Meta.
Not bad, 30% of the leadership of the corporation governing over Firefox came from one of the corporations with biggest responsibility on destroying the open internet.

I didn't realize the facebook execs Mozilla acqui-hired last year have been promoted! I was assuming they were still just heading the ads division of Mozilla, but oh boy, I fucking wish.
Now the former Senior VP of Marketing of facebook (2008-2022, the finest years of facebook) is the CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER of the entire Mozilla.
And the former VP of Ads in Facebook (2012-2022), is now the Senior VP of Product of Mozilla.
Let me repeat this:
The guy who used to lead the facebook team that was literally "advertising to teenagers based on their emotional state" is now the guy who decides the direction of Firefox as a product. But hey, let's keep giving Mozilla the benefit of the doubt uh? I'm sure these people-who-should-be-on-trial-in-the-hague are going to do great things for the community!

ok folks, just to be clear:
No one. No one, sells your personal identifiable data on the internet. I mean, yeah, probably the dark web and super shady companies are selling your social security number somewhere. But not major corporation is selling your name or address to advertisers. That's illegal in the EU and multiple other places. They just don't do it and haven't done it for a long, long time.
What they sell is a profile of you. They don't sell "Javiera Mena, whatever whatever street, buenos aires". They sell "Woman, 35 y.o., single, 1 kid, Argentinian, languages spoken: English, Portuguese, Spanish, interests: [ music, hiking, horror movies ], countries visited in the last 12 months: [ Chile, Argentina, Spain ], most used websites: []... ". You get the drill.
Then, advertisers can go and say "we have this ad campaign, and we want to show it to Women between 30 and 40 years old, interested in hiking that have been to the Andes in the last 6 months. And bam! you get the ad. They didn't sold your name, but they very much sold and profited from your data.
This is how Meta operates. This is how google operates. This is how tiktok operates. This is how internet advertising operates, at large.
It looks like this is how Firefox operates now, too.

There is this weird idea that pops-up from time to time when the right "thinkers" want to justify the US murdering some people: "it's the only way to free people from communist dictators, is not that they are going to let you vote them out" or similar.

The US 'defense' of Europe is carried out by around 65k US soldiers based in a couple of dozen US military bases in EU territory. The combined armies from the EU countries (and this is not even counting non-EU european countries, like the UK or Norway) have something between 1.5 and 2 million active troops. It doesn't feel those 65k USians are the ultimate line of defense of Europe.
Do you know for whom those soldiers and military bases are crucial, instead? For THE FUCKING US OF AMERICA.
Because, hear me out, WITHOUT EUROPEAN BASES THE US CAN'T PROJECT POWER INTO THE MIDDLE EAST NOR NORTH AFRICA. Yeah, sure, a carrier group is very impressive and the ultimate modern weapon yadda yadda. Good luck sending it to them to the persian gulf straight from the US East Coast. And even better luck trying to supply them without airbases in Europe. Ane even better than better luck putting troops on the groups anywhere in the old world without those bases.
Without their European military bases, the US is no longer a global military power. A major one? sure. But one that's MUCH more local than they have been until know, more similar to Russia or China.
So honestly, maybe it's time to get them to fuck off of our continent.

you may have read that Trump Gov has instructed its embassies across the world to send a letter to their providers giving them 5 days to certify they don't have any kind of DEI program in place or drop it if they want to keep being providers of the US embassy.
Now the fun part: Since last year, every company over 50 employees in Spain has to have a defined gender equity plan if they want to do business with the spanish public sector. Which I suspect is a MUCH bigger deal than keep being a provider for the US embassy.
Looking forward for the US embassy in Madrid running out of running water or electricity next week <3
