Part of the reason for some of my notions comes from being Generation X. I am from the “latchkey kid” generation. As the oldest child, I was often left alone and given the responsibility for taking care of my siblings at an age that would probably not be considered appropriate today.

I was a child living in West Germany in the late 70s and early 80s.

Sysco has a near monopoly on food distribution to restaurants.
If you are a restaurant owner and you try to get some of your food from local producers, Sysco will screw you over. They want all of your business or none of it.

The corrupt authority does not even have to have malicious intent; they just have to be wrong about at least one thing, and once you have a bad authority in the tent, the corruption can spread very quickly to the whole group. If you are using another form of morality, every moral decision is an independent decision, so if you want to corrupt a whole group, you have to corrupt each individual separately. However, if your group is using authority-based morality, then the entire group can be corrupted very quickly and easily. All you have to do is allow the wrong authority into the tent.

If you do not develop that definition, then morality is completely arbitrary, and you do not have any way of knowing if what you are getting from the authority is moral or not. Your sense of right and wrong is based entirely on the whims of whoever is claiming to speak for the authority.

At best, authority can demand obedience, which is not at all the same thing as morality. Yes, there are atheist organizations, but a lot of them have been gutted by infighting because a lot of leaders in those organizations sided with the "Four Horsemen," conservatives, and Evangelical Christians in culture war bullshit, so those organizations are weak and have low membership.
I just don't see how we're going to pick up the fight and properly defend religious minorities, especially now when it is needed more than ever.

Back when they were advocates for separation of church and state, they were able to bring organizational muscle to the fight to protect religious minorities from persecution by the majority. Now they are the ones likely to be doing the persecuting, and modern Evangelicals probably don't remember what their forefathers experienced at the hands of the Puritans.

Then the 1960s happened. Evangelicals got mad about hippies and all the free love stuff. Eventually, they had a Stalin-style purge and got rid of liberals from national leadership positions.
This in turn led to Evangelicals moving further and further to the right. This rightward-turn led to the notion that they could gain enough power in politics to turn America into an Evangelical theocracy.

Long ago, the Puritans used their majority control of local governments to persecute non-Puritans. In fact, this was what they came to America to do. One of their frequent victims of religious persecution from local governments was Evangelicals.
Because of this, Evangelicals were tireless advocates for religious freedom. They were often the ones who went to the mat to protect this or that religious minority, because they remembered what it was like to be the persecuted.

The word terrorist is used to denounce the weaker side when asymmetrical warfare tactics are used. Thus, simply using the term terrorist is done in defense of the stronger side in an asymmetrical conflict.
There's a word for military powers that occupy and control weaker nations and peoples: colonialism.
Simply using the term terrorism as a negative is expressing support for colonialism using purely emotional appeals.

Before the Revolution, about ⅓ supported rebellion, while ⅓ wanted to remain a British colony. It was the actions of the Irregulars that provoked overreactions by the British military, and those overreactions resulted in a large shift in public opinion among Americans.

These tactics may sound awful, but this is what both the US and USSR taught to various factions around the world throughout the Cold War. These tactics were taught because they are effective.
