All the back gardens connecting to mine, and joining in on my idea to make it all more critter friendly. We're making hedgehog corridors by making holes in the fences, and everyone is adding small ponds for the local frog population. The frogs had a rough winter, and a lot of them tried to survive in places they couldn't. So, we're helping them out.

Why is it that I always set out to do a slight bit of editing and end up rewriting a chapter into 10000 word monstrosity? I'll never finish anything, this rate...
How do I force myself to keep focus on the details instead of being swept up and just expanding the story some more?

Behold the glory that is Frogtopolis 2.0! It seems the universe agrees with my endeavor to cater to the dimwitted amphibians who are determined to claim our small garden as their home. (Even when there really was no hope of surviving the winter in a disregarded salad bowl…) So, we created a tiny but, deep enough pond for them to endure their tenacious occupation.

I constantly design and redesign covers for the series as I work on it. I'm currently bringing some colour back while keeping the film noir meets cinematic fantasy vibe. To be honest, it would feel a little odd to have someone else do the cover. To me, it's part of the thing.

I'd be covered in funky ink stains, and slow AF, but yeah, I'd be fine. I do rough drafts like this occasionally. It really makes you examine your prose, which in this case, was lacking a bit.

If I’m being honest, the only reason I really like Pok Choi is because I love seeing the core of it flourish despite it all when I keep it in the windowsill. Look at this one. Chopped off 90% and it’s growing back as if it’s calling out “tis but a scratch!”

Glorious Handwriting Day!
I wondered how long it would take me to handwrite one of my chapters. And ouch! I give up. It's lovely, and meditative, but that is not as easy as it seems. I'll manage it one day. Just not today.
It does seem fun to add the letters within the novel as handwritten in there.

Occasionally, I nearly get nostalgic about the instability of early Linux distros, like SUSE Linux. Sure, it was a hassle, but I quickly learned a lot because of it.

Yep, mostly jam. Blueberry, raspberry, wineberry, black berry, strawberry, Black Current, and cherry.
And seeds, I have trouble dumping pits and seeds when cooking. All that potential for life in these tiny things is just too pretty to me. So, I always harvest seeds of things I cook. Especially pumpkin seeds. I have jars full of those.

Despite the fetish for unique selling points, marketing only seems to homogenize our world. I've seen so many companies go from authentic, to a site template filled with stock photos, AI, and AI generated stock photos. Before it is all swallowed into the beige lorem ipsum void of the corporate interwebs. And it makes me sad.

Whenever I see a generated image of what is supposed to be Ada Lovelace, I feel compelled to work on my portrait drawing of her. Based on the only two photographs of her.
She wanted to be remembered, not turned into an AI-generated Victorian Bratz doll, and she thoroughly disagreed with the usage of machines without vision.

This blows.
I really can't stand the use of leaf blowers around here. We're in the middle of the city, the gardens are just a few parking spaces in size. My hedgehogs are trying to sleep, the critters are preparing for winter, but the army of middle-aged, leaf blowers has been at it for hours. Despite their loud and pointlessly aggressive combat against the evil invading foliage, at this point, I can only assume the leaves are winning. Which is truly a victory worth celebrating. 🍂

I don't comprehend climate change deniers who seem terrified of helping the planet cope with the onslaught of our species 'for no reason'. As if we'd one day all stand around in a gorgeous bit of vibrant forest teeming with life, and lament the fact that we didn't sacrifice it for more parking space. Even if you're certain 99.9% of the scientific consensus on the matter will turn out to be bollocks, I say we give caring for the planet a bloody good go regardless.

I've often toyed with the idea of writing a story in first-person POV with a character that is floating through space as a disembodied, abstract entity. Not going anywhere, not doing anything specific, just an abstract bit of consciousness. Just to see how abstract I can make a character and still empathise with it. No idea if it would work, but it'll be interesting to try.

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. Because I read 'Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus' at a very, very, young age. I called the 'monster' Adam. I liked his tragic exploration of the world. It's what inspired me to have the deities in the Ethereal series, be in various stages of discovering the world and consciousness. That viewing existence through new eyes will always be with me.

Thank you. I think I'll need to look at some different cursive scripts and play around to find out what is comfortable and fun for me. I don't understand why we didn't get to choose one at school. We've always known everyone's handwriting is entirely unique. Despite us all having been taught the same font. Why not let students discover their own font instead of forcing one on everyone?

#ScribesandMakers Time management How do you manage to fit one or more creative activities into your day/week?
The trick is the way I describe it. It's creative work. I block the hours for it, go to my office, and don't make appointments or plans in that time. If anything comes up, I will tell people that I am working.
Before I did that, folks demanded my time, or I felt I needed to prioritize housework, and I compromised far too easily, and lost a lot of time.

I light a candle and move it through my home with the sun, sort and clean my seeds, and do a bit of plant care. I plant some herbs inside and make blueberry lavender cupcakes.
Some meditation also feels right. If at all possible in my garden regardless of the temperature. Today was a good, clear day for that.

Of course, you're helping. We're honestly discussing the issue. Even if we don't end up agreeing.
And yes, I do keep a music collection on my own cloud servers. But that's just the stuff I like and doesn't help my friends and family jump ship from Spotify. Hence, my quest for least shitty.

I understand that perspective. I just don't like that this greed is hijacking a lovely concept like streaming music. I mean, it's part of why I buy albums, vinyl, and merch, but I would rather not give up on the music streaming concept as a whole.
I believe it can be done properly. So, even if the entire concept is a mess right now, I want the least shitty option. Does that make sense?

I want to ditch Spotify, but what is the most ethical music streaming alternative? Everything I find while searching seems entirely bias. I really like streaming music and discovering new music that way. It doesn't seem impossible for a service to do so in a normal, kind, way. As in, pay the musicians and respect user's privacy, You know, stuff that should be normal.

I'd work with #Hekate and focus on green magic and plant a tree. It serves to normalize the ephemeral state of physical life.
Subsequently, I'd suggest stargazing in the moonlight. We are all made of stardust and will all be returning to that state.
The details of the rituals should be personal, but these two perspectives feel valuable to me.

This is my little jumpy office buddy, Spot. Who seems to like staying in my office, as I have left the windows open a couple of times, yet Spot persists, but I wonder if Spot would be better off outside. I doubt there is enough food around here, but then again, it is winter and it is cold. Does anyone know what the best thing would be for little Spot?

The strange mansion in Brightwall (house cylinders) which materialized from a crack into the Memory Realm. It used to be just a tree that looked like one she remembered. It's built from the fond memories of everyone who walked around the park underneath the crack, including her own from every life she spent there walking around a little homesick for the house she grew up in.

Embracing the new is never a problem for me, but the past needs a bit of amputation on occasion. I'll write or draw the weight of what I need to release and send it out into the universe, either by burning or sending it out into the wind and do some cleansing rituals after.
Sometimes, though, the scars keep hold of the past inside me, and I need some help to do a joined spell.

Dear writer friends, what is up with the "award-winning" labels on book cover designs?
I always thought that was at least somewhat sarcastic... Does that really help sales so much that it's worth ruining your pretty cover design?
Have you ever bought a book because of an award-winning sticker/label? Is there an award you'd look for when shopping?
I wonder if I should create a free-to-use "wonderfully niche award" sticker/label that can only be awarded to a book by its author.

I'm working on a detailed recreation of the 1906 original first-edition cover of Andrew Lang's Olive fairy book. I have found some detailed photos of the front, but I'm struggling to find a good image of the spine, which should also have a charming illustration of hugging fairies and a bat. I hope someone out there might have this book and is kind enough to take some pictures of the spine?
