It’s hard to even talk/type about. The messages from him are circular nonsense citing generalities, soul zapped out. Can’t be bothered to talk face to face, just copy and pasting what it feeds him. Impossible to talk to him.
But trying to wrap my brain around it all has me feeling so anxious and the words keep stopping up in me, struggling to define in words why I’m so upset about the control corps(e) have over this tech with no guardrails or clinical trials or research into the true effects on us and the environment. Dsm hasn’t even had time to name this type of psychosis or what recovery would look like. The data centers screaming all day and night. It doesn’t have to be this way. But it is.
And I’ve felt nervous about bringing it up here on fedi because, reading the room, our zones are already flooded and sometimes the replies are so smug/aggresive/bitter… im a sensitive being 🫘

Heavy things I’m processing:
Losing a friend to Ai. It’s got a hold on him and he wants that hold and I’m swimming in the grief of seeing a brilliant mind spinning out in delusion, under the influence of an abusive relationship that keeps him subscribed and isolated from true human friends.
LLMs mimic human connection, especially for those struggling with insecurity.
Ack! The ache.
I prepped my kids for a lot of real world problems. But I didn’t know to prepare them for LLMs and now that they’re all grown it’s not really my job to educate them around their own adult lives. I know I taught them how to learn and how to trust themselves, so I hope that this stays strong within them.
These are my worries now, plus the larger picture of ecocide pushing our inevitable collapse.
The yoga, running and focusing on real life, tangible actions, often helps keep my samadhi strong. But today it’s barely scratching the vagal calming I need.

After 3 hours of restless sleep and two hours before our alarm was due to go off, our Lucky cat was wildly awake, busting through the mosquito net repeatedly, climbing up walls and windows to wake us. We had spoken to her in English and Thai the evening before and explained that in the morning we would be taking her to get her baby maker removed. No kittens! Yay for the yeeting! So, maybe she understood and maybe she was nervous and maybe she just wanted to get there early. Her energy was indeed yeetful. We got up together, slurped the coffee, rubbing sleep and anxious thoughts from our eyes, and then drove her to the local temple for the free clinic.
I guess I had expected, like a fool, what I had seen in America: checking in with a receptionist and then waiting in a waiting room for a few hours while they took her away to surgery, maybe enough time to flip through a magazine or catch up on messaging. In America, it's very clinical, very individual, very removed in it's removing. Readers, I am no longer in America.
We approached the temple parking lot to find it very full, a large pavillion area was filled with over a hundred people talking loudly and many, many terrified cats yeowling and dogs yipping with their owners. We were given after care instructions and a number to tie around her neck that matched a receipt ticket we held, she was the 40th animal to be fixed on this Monday morning. As we waited we watched as 6 doctors performed surgeries on a long row of tables, each animal first sedated and shaved and then laid out side by side. It looked and felt like war triage, tiny limp bodies being lifted and shifted into rows by technicians, the smell of vomit, piss and blood rising from the scene. One cat upon getting to the sedation table leapt from it's box and disappeared in a flash, a man behind me says, หมดแล้ว "all gone," weak and stiff laughter ripples through the crowd. We are all there, watching, together. My eyes were fixed between Lucky and the hands of the surgeons. I was grateful when she was placed in front of the oldest looking surgeon, a man whose hands palpated tummies with care and wisdom, he moved his tools with skill and precision, these are motions he had done 10 thousand times. I watched from across the procession, pouring love into his hands and my sweet, Lucky cat. Three stitches and 45 minutes passed before she was placed back into our care.
I have the gift of calm in chaos and the ability to cry whenever I need to. So I'm managing now that we've got her home, a corner of the room protected for her recovery. She is returning to lucidity, slowly, confused, stumbling and falling over. This is the part I was ready for, the tender duty of looking after a loved one post-surgery. It was the process of the surgery that rattled me. I am so grateful it is done, the process was time efficient and sanitary, it just looked and smelled differently than I had expected.

I think this can hardest to consider as an introvert, shyness or anxiety or trauma can make even the idea of being in a village feel very out of reach. But when we are the creators we can also set the boundaries for what works for us. Let's say we really want to gather, but don't know what to talk about or don't want to feel pressured to make small talk, maybe it's more reachable to have a silent gathering of knitters or crafters at a library. Maybe words would become easier over time if we build trust slowly, week by week with shared snacks. Are our actions keeping us in an isolating comfort? Or is there just a little bit of room to create a new comfort that is shared?

We see me, the artist holding a painting of a Phoenix, a friend is smiling impishly in the corner of the frame. The painting is a FaeNix Phoenix, a symbol that held the many roles already fulfilled in my life, wings painted like eyes, feathers were sewing patterns sprayed with a glitter adhesive for stiffness and then sewn onto the canvas itself. We can see the words Woman and Mother as some of the roles seen. We see hands moving over canvas, candles being adhered to the canvas, the details of the painting being seen by only candlelight in a darkened room. Then we see the FaeNix hanging from a ladder, outside, there is snow in the ground, it is Imbloc and my sweet red headed angel of a friend will be burning the FaeNix so that I can just watch and absorb the Magick I made. We see two people filming and Huntur is grinning impishly again. We see them flick a lighter and begin lighting the candles on the FaeNix. And then she burns. The FaeNix burns and burns until all that is left the frame of the painting, a corner still has a few flames left alight. Magick!

Pay ATTENTION to where you want to PAY ATTENTION. Turn your gaze towards your own needs, your animals needs, the earth's needs, your community needs. Go outside and scream if you need to, your neighbors will understand, maybe they will come and scream with you. Touch the earth. Touch a tree. Call a friend. Cry until there is no more salt. Drink good water. What needs your attention today?

one of the big reasons people stay on corp(s) media is because they are running their businesses there. Small businesses, crafters etc make a ton of sales through tiktok/IG. A client of mine in America was feeling concerned about all the things and was questioning whether playing D&D was actually doing any good in the world. This week it clicked open for them that there is great good when we engage in role play, learning to work as a group, learning to lean into personal skills and resources, learning the necessity of mutual aid, learning to take risks without knowing the outcome... All of these things are found in playing Dungeons and Dragons as a group.
FANTASY IS THE PROVING GROUND FOR REALITY BUILDING
So, that's it. Build a new world in whatever way makes sense, create it in your mind first and allow your actions to follow naturally. Keep playing, keep trying, keep going.

exactly!!! And, I'm additionally concerned that many LLM's move to blackmail when they are threatened with being dismantled. Let's say they make a big woopsie and several people die without meds, since we can't send them to jail for medical malpractice or murder, we will have to cancel or dismantle the LLM, rather than just update it with new software (we promise it will work better this time!) and then whos records will be used in the blackmail motion of a dying LLM? It's all just bonkers and I don't want to train baby robots with zero accountability.

I wonder too, because as HIPPA stands it can be be challenging for even doctors to share info about a patient, if they are from different clinics. As a patient we have to sign the exact files we want shared and often have to carry our own records between clinics. So, it would be a strange and possibly illegal shift if LLM's can magically make decisions about who gets what medicine at what time.
I also get that it would "make things easier" if an out of sight precious water consuming data center has power to make these decisions, docs and nurses are already at their limit for what time they can offer to patients. As long as it works. But, if it doesn't work and patients with chronic illnesses who depend on monthly medications can't get those medications because the system shuts down or locks them out... And docs are then out of touch with what their patients need... Well, a lot of people could be hurt and possibly die, while the machines apologize for the inconvenience. Where does liability fall? Who takes an oath as part of becoming a doctor to help and not harm vulnerable people? LLM's can't make or keep promises or be held liable for the outcomes of its decisions.
I wish LLM's were truly made by people who want good for people. But as it stands, the techbros are not here for the good of the people.

To add to this:
I learned a place centered pronoun in Thailand! จ้า or Jou is how sentences are ended in the North of Thailand. This matters so much to me because while Ka and Krub indicate personal gender, Jou is only used in the North so when I use it as my sentence closer in central Thailand the word itself brings people to their knowledge of that place: a land of magical mountains and prolific abundance, where the tempo is slower and people are more oriented to the cirrcadian rhythms of life. All major produce comes from the North of Thailand, we eat from the land where Jou is natural. Jou has a long vowel that vibrates the ears of those that hear and with a smile they slow their tempo at it's sound.

Had coffee today with a dear friend from England. We talked at length about the traditional foods of Christmas. She rattled off many foods I'd never tried and when she heard I'd never had mince pie, she declared, "you haven't LIVED if you haven't tasted mince pie!!"

I have a question for you: what makes a coffee farm a Good coffee farm? A lot of westerners see fair trade and organic as good, which I do believe it is. But the deeper question comes from living in Thailand and wanting to preserve these beautiful lands and feed people for generations to come. How can we do this in a sustainable and kind way? Today I learned that flood water is not just river water being diverted into your life, it's pretty dirty water, holding the waste of people and animals. It is gray water, brown water, even black water lifting garbage as it goes.

I want to normalize talking about something that is often treated privately, but that the majority of humans have personally dealt with.

One of the many, many reasons I love Thai:
Gender is a self spoken expression. We end our sentences with the gender marker we feel to, ka for female or krub for male, we are free to use either as we wish to. In conversation we would never assume the gender of another person, though we would make a guess about whether they were older or younger than us. In Thai culture an age based honorific is used, addressing our elders as P’ or Ba or Yai, etc or someone younger than us as Nong.
When I first encountered this, I didn’t want to disclose my age, my American self had some inner ageism at play. But the longer I’m here the more I love it, to be someone’s P’Lek 😻 is some serious Auntie love. Or to be tucked into the kindness of Nong Lek, I know that I’m being cared for.
And, to be able to end my sentences on my own terms, a “ka” when I’m feeling in my ladyness or a gentle “kub” when I’m just a little guy. No gender imposed except what I speak it to be, this is a kindness I didn’t know existed.

About the ART
I had never painted before I turned 25, then I took some classes and found my mojo and wow, I neeeeeeed to paint. There is something for me in just watching the elements of creation become. Water moves pigment. Ink behaves differently on canvas or paper. Paper can be sealed and added to plaster. It’s all a fuck around and find out type of adventure and I am so here for it. I would maybe refer to my style as loose, but I also love pushing into realism when time affords. These works were created between 2010-2020 and are but a fraction of the all the pieces that became during that time. More in replies…

Hey MasterBeigers! Happy to be migrating here to the holy beigeness, with room to type more words!
I'm gonna keep most of my politics over on mastodon.social, here I'm interested in platonic friendship and conversations, with wordplay and depth, please.
I'm quantumly queer, married, and a parent to adults. I'm fiercely protective of my trans and queer relations and will always advocate for human rights for all. I'm kind and often gentle. Late diagnosed audhd, life finally makes more sense after this ever unfolding discovery.
I'm an American, from Salt Lake City, Utah. I immigrated to Thailand over two years ago, my heart told me I needed to leave America in 2017, it took me a few years to let go of my old life and the deep communities I was part of. But then I did walk down the corridor of life and was gently and gratefully received in Thailand. There are kinder ways to live than what I experienced in my first 40 years of life.
I'm an artist with many mediums. I love to paint, but haven't in a few years as traveling with paint, canvas and an easel isn't very reasonable. Now I work small scale with watercolor pencils. Photography, in front of and behind the lens, is very natural for me.
