I make the point that technology exists that allows age verification ( that is, user is older than 18 ) without revealing anything else about the user. If the concern were children safety , it would be used.
Instead, what is deployed to , ostensibly, verify the age, forces the user to reveal their identity.
Sometime that starts a good conversation.

The experience with my node is that force closures are very rare. Still annoying but in no way a show stopper. Cost is negligible when on chain fees are low, annoying if they are high.

Speed is the main reason with my setup. In my case I have Coinos as the default wallet for @npub18m7…q955 ( via the zap.army workaround ) via NWC. Custodial but very fast. Small amounts only.
My Zeus connects to my core lighting node over TOR. Sovereign but not as fast, not ideal for zaps.
Plus I can quickly connect to the same NWC wallet from any nostr app that supports it if I want to. 😃

At the beginning of his recent chat with @nprofile…6dtc , @nprofile…xncl makes a distinction between negative rights and positive rights. Or between innate rights and entitlements.
I find this a very useful frame to potentially understand where people are coming from when the topic of the right to free speech / financial privacy / private property comes up, and they tell me that these rights are "not absolute", "subordinated to the common good", "granted by the state", or other similar misconceptions.
They may be failing to make the distinction between rights, that are innate and absolute, with social aspirations, that aren't.

The Soviet Union and the United States fought over the definition of "Human Rights" after World War II. [... ]

The ability to gather, the ability to believe, the ability to think, the ability to have private property, the ability to own your labor: these are things that you are innately born with.
And then the Soviet Union was advancing what are called "positive rights" which are entitlements.
[...] If you read the UN Declaration of Human Rights you'll notice that the first half is all negative rights or civil liberties and the second half is entitlements (right to work, right to vacation, right to house, etc.) and these are nice things but the idea that they should be human rights forces a situation where all of a sudden someone else is forced to work from you.

Hashers, that is, people running “miner” appliances who choose to point them to pools that don’t use spam filters are contributing to letting through spam that 99.9 % of people don’t want and that could easily be throttled down if more of us pointed the said ASICs to pools that do apply spam filters.
At the moment the only pool I know of that applies spam filters is @npub1qtv…7dze so I pointed to it.
The more people do the more there will be pressure on other pools to use spam filters and thereby help to limit ( if not eliminate) spam.
I don’t understand why the theoretical point keeps being made that it is not possible to eliminate all spam. The same could be said about email spam and yet no one argues that filtering out email spam is pointless.

I’ve been quite happy.
Initial install and config requires a small amount of work but after that incremental changes are a changes to the configuration file and a deploy.
With the peace of mind that if something does not work you can always revert the change and re-deploy .
