@nprofile…2g7j Not financial advice, but even assuming the bubble finally pops tomorrow, it will take months at best for factories to retool themselves to switch production from data center memory to mobo memory, not to mention that realistically they won't be looking forward to doing that and their foremen will be dragging their feet all the way, and realistically not all contracts will be rescinded at once
Assuming there's no hardware price collapse within 18 months, and assuming your own reservation will jump ahead within 14 months, you should have enough time to do a little scalping yourself
Of course, I realize there's cultural differences at play and you may not be comfortable doing those switch and resale plays, but hey, just offering my two cents :akkoshrug:

And yes, some of them were masked. I remember a guy that went as "Ninjalexi Laiho" that did Children of Bodom covers and was always covered in a way to resemble a ninja, but his long hair flew out and he kinda looked like a masked Laiho
It all went down the drain once music corporations started enforcing that covers that were too good actually were copyright infringement, and automated strikes followed

I dunno how a guy like that managed to get a CS degree (According to his github) and still act like software isn't something that just gets copied and distributed at all times. Never mind the fact he doesn't do any of the Linux stuff because, as he admits it, he doesn't use Linux, so it's just other maintainers doing compatibility on their own time and dime.
Not to mention his whole change of license gimmick that got him angry because people were doing forks, acting like he's not on github. It's as if he doesn't really know how it works, despite having a CS degree.
It's a problem common to Windows-only developers (Or Mac-only, I guess), really. They fully absorb Microsoft's way of doing things even though they don't gain anything from it, and they just keep going.

They're less strict about "You need to have exactly this degree, from exactly these colleges, with this GPA minimum, otherwise you're out". You can be semi-honest and tell them you've learned enough to know the corporate life is not your thing. Bonus points if their HR is boomer ladies (The sweeter non-karen kind)
Anyway, congrats on learning why most people eventually drop it/tech to do something else before getting into it/tech at all :airiwink:

Now you know why terms such as "bullshit jobs" exist. Literal make-work games that middle schoolers could do.
And it's not better in IT, either. Half the time is formatting/rebooting (On Windows) or throwing systemd commands (On Linux). Stuff you could learn in about two weeks at worst.

On the plus side no more github/libraries, at worst you may need to post there some shell/python automation scripts

You read "data" (Monthly reports), write a little essay on it (Usually won't even be looked at), and then do a little powerpoint about it and "explain" it to executives that can't even be half-assed to read what you just wrote in your little essay.
Repeat 2-3 times a week for all eternity. Engage in retarded competition with your colleagues about who makes the most colorful powerpoints. See attractive foids being promoted over you because they allegedly expose better their powerpoints (And their parts)
Nothing that LLMs can't do already by asking them to summarize. Still no powerpoint, but could be coming soonish.

And meat and cheese were scarcer overall, which is where you get animal fats.

Simply too costly to manufacture and maintain. Wheels are cheaper than pneumatic muscles. Their "horse-like" replacement for example was terminated because the army found out that mules would be cheaper.
Their humanoid robot was simply too complex.
Would need major advances in artificial muscles before anything like that becomes viable, and even then would also need to be cheaper.

Of course, factories may manage to automate somewhat those things, but outside you will still need technicians climbing over roofs and tearing down walls.
They might suffer more due to declining population that can't afford housing and leaves them without stable income.
We've been memeing the trades for a decade plus by now, but the fact still stands that if you don't got a union job, or inherit an established customer base, then even trades can be painful. That could worsen still if their potential customers simply disappear

@nprofile…kz2s What may be happening is that your IT sector was kept down because entrepreneurs/corps preferred investing into their established manufacturing sectors. This kept IT small but comfy, like in the early days.
Thinking if it, another German guy once told that his government preferred investing into cable/satellite TV, and neglected high-speed Internet.
You may have a very boomer-minded country there (No offense, of course). Basically, no leaf moves that could bother them.
Of course, it's guaranteed they'll start be looking for foreigners if they can't manage enough IT workers at home, or if they grow too costly. They will also loosen requirements if they get desperate.

@nprofile…kz2s This used to happen in the USA too, schools did a lot of networking with local businesses, especially vocational schools, although it was plenty informal, but it worked.
This system was eventually dismantled starting in the 80s to leave people an unqualified lot after high school, and then either go to college or be little better than an high school dropouts. With so many firms shipping jobs overseas, besides, there wasn't much room for vocational training anyway, thus everyone and their brother went into tech/IT, business, law school, liberal arts
Those that couldn', either shipped themselves to the coasts being outcompeted by foreigners, or stay rotting in their rust belt town
The rest is history

"Apprentice" contracts that eventually get upgraded to regular contracts are a dime a dozen, but they were way more popular back in the boomer days. Now, they're mostly into trades, but to get a trade union job, you better have connections, or they may prefer just hiring foreigners for cheaper
The rest is unpaid internships hoping they hire you out...eventually

Deutsche bank is primarily an investment bank, and a large one at that. It may be keeping a web of smaller time institutes due to regulations, or it is absorbing smaller time institutes already, but they haven't killed them off still due to circumstances.

@nprofile…kz2s If regional branches operate on a separate accounting ledger, and only give a % of the profits to their main, it basically works as an independent credit institute that franchises as a bigger one. Those may indeed prefer small time lending to individuals and small businesses.
Note that the main branch may close the smaller ones if they go into red with little consequences on average.

Compared to your average USA resident, you would only qualify for mid credit score (Yes, most cases you actually have to score credit, and repay it to get a good credit score. Simply not being in debt is not enough to get you into high tier credit score)
Remember also that Germany has a somewhat more diverse web of credit institutes. There are still plenty of smaller time credit institutes that find acceptable lending to individuals and small business, since they can't compete with the big boys. Regulation separating lending/saving institutes from investment institutes helps, and may be in place.
In the USA, small time credit institutes have basically all been consolidated into larger ones. Those simply like investing into big ventures, and give individuals or small businesses ridiculous requirements which usually they can't afford. Add to this that in the USA you basically need a car, and a phone, and public services are poor if not paid for, and then you understand
In short: you wouldn't have gotten an house loan in the USA, even if you somehow had a fully paid for car and such.

It's "directories", in the sense that a filesystem indexes files in a dimensionally-vertical manner.
When GUIs came around, little icons of folders were used to represent those dimensions, since that's what clerks would have been familiar with. But they could have used little doors instead, or boxes, or matryoshkas as icons and it would work just as well (I'd argue boxes would work better)
So, yeah, the self-serving media literacy test about folders reveals you never saw a CLI in your life, but you go around the Internet saying that kids nowadays don't know what folders are. I imagine they're the same guys that " Know computers since the Apple 2"

@nprofile…csx6 Remember that, despite those permissions, Google Play Service just ignore all sandboxing restrictions and have basically root access by default.
Banking apps and the like also are given a special treatment, being given access to the SafetyNet API (Now obsolete) or the newer Play Integrity API to be given a rundown of what is going on the system.
So, just use GrapheneOS (Which enforces sandboxing on Google Play Services, although some apps may fingerprint and ban it) or have a secondary phone for certain tasks.

@nprofile…l50x No joke I'm guessing by now companies offering lower-end employment are more likely to just accept that there's people majoring into easier degrees just because of peer pressure or college lifestyle ticket access, while still believing those computer engineering graduates simply are too employable to be accepted into lower-end positions without them flying off at the very first whim...except it's not true anymore, and now they're worse-off comparatively.

@nprofile…lq09 I don't think they bundled a whole browser in it (License nightmare), nevermind the SSL certificates that are pretty much required.
I think it calls for your browser-set environmental variable and opens your actual browser.
Now, how is it rendering your browser window, though? Window-capture and send, I guess?

Of course, they begun disappearing when the Internet went too corporate and I couldn't suffer anymore the more "professional" crop of journalists.
This was before the gamergate, btw

@nprofile…l50x It's similar to why banking apps on grapheneOS are hit or miss. If they rely too much on google servers's security verification, grapheneOS can't replicate that legally without functionally implementing a rootkit.
GPay, you guessed it, is full on board with google servers' security checks, since that's what they have.
That being said, stock ROM sucks, searchbar in the way and forced AI integration, among other things.
Smartphones all suck today. They're too locked down. You could once use modded ROMs with default apps no probs, until Google realized someone could fork the entire Android project and make something better, they then pivoted towards locking-down in the name of "security"

@nprofile…66ct Nowadays, with the WWW, you should only need a properly configured client to access an Usenet server, but, in practice (This happens even today with leftover Usenet providers), users back then had to buy access (There still was no WWW) thus providers sold "newsgroups access" (Usenet), Email, and other services.
Once the WWW came, most providers became modern ISPs, and the newsgroups were gradually dropped, although other services were usually retained (Such as emails)
Leftover Usenet providers these days provide WWW-facing servers that can be accessed prior authentication, though there were free ones. Maybe Emacs uses a community-supported one.

@nprofile…66ct Well, from what I read around, many people got newsfeeds, email, and Internet access from AOL, and they paid for that.
Maybe the logic is to go "hack" the AOL database, and see to what payments that email address/AOL account is associated to. Usenet access indeed had profiles, and those usually were sold bundled with email accounts
The writer probably assumed *anyone" could do that, although I heard that back in the day you could indeed append a /dir to a website name and get into their directory, so, maybe like that?

@nprofile…6g30 Problem is, those "real engineering" degrees are hard, man. Like really hard. And you also have to graduate on time not to be too much bigger compared to others, otherwise they'll always pick the younger ones over you.
If you had trouble with algebra in HS, that kinda of algebra in those degrees will make you want to slam your face on desk

@nprofile…66ct You should still be able to sign-up an account with a certified stock exchanger if you go to their offices and ask them to take a look at your documents.
You can tell them your phone number was being denied or whatever.
But, even then, how are you even using a bank account if now all of them require mail + phone number + app to access to?

Surely they aren't going to solve the verified boot problem with rust.
Only thing I want from the rust crowd is to go and attempt a rewrite of systemd in rust: hopefully the fallout will be so bad to ruin both systemd fanboys and the rust cult.
